[Mark Dobson] “Ken Segall’s post seems strangely out of date even to the point of reigniting the ‘iMovie Pro’ debate and is there really such disquiet at the lack of a new 17′ Macbook Pro?
“I’d like one, and am actually quite disappointed that there isn’t one.

Ironically, I’ve spent the last two months on FCP 7. So, in LA, I’m seeing a slight uptick in freelance Avid, which was already dominant. I’ve also seen a couple of cable networks go Pr. I’m still seeing a lot of FCP 7, which probably has another year or more. I’m seeing more ads for X, and, of course, know folks like John Davidson, whose company has embraced it fully.

I don’t know this particular transition, but what I say below works with a lot of different transitions.
Try placing the A side clip above the B side clip so that they overlap the length of the proposed transition, cut the A side clip on the first frame of the B side clip an apply the transition to the new clip. Depending on what kind of controls are built into the effect, you then may need to keyframe the opacity of the transition clip to activate the transition.

August 7, 2013 at 9:34 pm in reply to: Moving to FCPX, Adobe Premiere Pro, and Avid…almost simultaneouslyDerek, this is a terrific opportunity for you, and you should fully embrace it. For one thing, you will learn far more about what you do by learning all three, then by learning any one of them exclusively. And yes, if being a editor means being somebody else’s fingers–as it does for many–than any future employer will want you to be extremely proficient. But that, really, is a separate issue. What you should be thinking about here is “and” not “or.” Dig in and have fun.

I’ve been using iPad controller apps for a couple of years now, and enjoy them. Before that, I often used a Cintiq as a mixer. Its kinda cool, now, to see them integrated with the package itself.
AC7 Core was quite useful for FCP7. I used it with my laptop al the time:

When I finish the projects I’m currently on, I’ll be breaking V Control Pro in:

It works with everything but X.

[Neil Goodman] “f course Pro Tools isnt ever going out of style.”
I would sure like Protools to get rid of that stupid dongle the way MC products have.

[John Davidson] “I bet a second cup of coffee would have me thinking of more.

Great list. I’ll pay for that second cup of coffee if you want to add more.

[Herb Sevush] “Apple made it especially for him, and the fact that the launch alienated so many has only allowed Bill to get the jump on all those poor saps, which was Apple’s intention all along.”
Yes, its all for the best in this best of all possible worlds.

[Bernard Newnham] “[Chris Harlan] “Somebody needs some coffee.”
But he’s right. “
Of course he’s right. Coffee has little or no effect on being right or wrong, though–personally–I’ve noticed that it keeps me from grumping on people in the morning. Mostly.

[Frédéric Völker] “After I posted I came across the post you mentioned, as well as on this one :
https://forums.creativecow.net/thread/277/21306
“In that thread, you’ve certainly found the right person to ask. Joseph Owens knows this area quite well, as it is his particular livelyhood.
If I were you, I would cut and paste some of the delivery info you’ve included above, along with what you are currently working with–you say film, but obviously it is not; is it also uncompressed AVI?–and I would add them to the query you’ve posed to Joseph.
[Frédéric Völker] “I am perfectly aware that this needs to be done with dedicated equipment to be 100% sure that the video is broadcast legal. However, I have by no means enough money to invest, and neither do I want, if possible, to stop making movies just for that reason. “
Hey, maybe they’ll be lenient. Maybe they won’t. Maybe you’ll be on target. Some stations enforce standards rigorously. Others do not. Standards originally came into being to block analog crosstalk between frequencies, and only later became quality assurance requirements.
One thing I’ll add: They do warn you about crushed or spiked black levels, and one of the easier ways to get those is with blanket use of luminance clamps on video that is clipping. How to define crushed blacks is also a little bizarre these days, as it is actually a desired effect by some people for some cameras. You might find this old Ken Stone article about waveform monitors useful. Its about FCP 7, but going over it might give you enough of a sense to get by:
