October 4, 2012 at 9:33 am in reply to: Making rain effect with particles with each droplets beign different assets?Hi
….. pretty sure the answer is that it can be done but I do not know all the details ….
By way of useful info have seen tutorials where particles are made of sprites which are nominated objects from a drop-down menu ( which searches the loaded layers for options )
I think this is the principle behind the new Element 3D package – I think the 3D objects are imported as sprites.
So ….. if you have a number of particle systems running together and load different sprites on each one that should solve the first part of the problem I think.
However I do not have enough experience with this to advise on what happens when they hit the floor although my instinct is that it is probably ‘do-able’……….
All the best ……… and if you get this one sorted it would be useful to post it I think I can see this might be used in all sorts of creative situations.

Hi there —
Basic introductory tutorials at https://www.videocopilot.net/basic/ are very useful for starters.
Also Andrew Devis’s tutorials on this site are excellent as follow ups.
And when you reckon you’ve got the basics maybe go back to the VC site and check some of the more in depth tutorials involving creative use of basics ….. ( and also some pretty advanced stuff as well )
Changing the size of the b/g s pretty basic and I dont think theres any point me going into that in any detail at this point — I would simply say that you need to have the rest of your compostion on another layer or that will change at the same ratio as the b/g.

Hi Mitch
I would say singer is keyed over the b/g — dont be fooled by the ‘mist’ drifting in front of her its easy to add this on another layer.

Hi Dave
——- I’d even go one further — I reckon import key stills into PS and artwork the strips there – of if you are an illustartor guy sort it there ….. ( without the spaces where it goes behind cars etc ) — this way you have total control over shading to artisticly match shot — and then comp it in AE.
The bands in the Nissan job dont seem to obey the camera or any kind of way or have any 3d parallax so it could well be thats how they were done ….

—- very useful — this is on my list of ‘things to test’ – done loads of this in Flint but not AE as yet — I imagine its pretty straight-forward but practice is important in case I’m short of time on a real job sometime…

Vishesh
…………..should be an easy one …
1 ) take still into PS and carefully artwork out lettering
2 ) take art-worked still into AE and apply 2 masks – one for each of piece of lettering – adjust feathering till perfect patch is made
3 ) track shot if camera is not locked off apply motion track to cut-outs ( patches )
4 ) If there is grain on your footage add a grain effect to your patches
5 ) If hands move over type add as another layer on top and roto out / pull mask using footage as track matt.
— and thats it …. should look perfect ———– chris —

Vishesh – answer is probably to patch it from somewhere else in the shot but it depends – if you want to mail a still I’ll be able to tell you in more detail — chris
