I always set everything to follow the projects folder.

In my case, everything is on a RAID5 array.

All clips, graphics, audio and render previews go in that single project folder.

I’ve had no problems moving them from one system to another.

I have the same systems (2 of them)
and have not had those issues on one of them.

The other mac developed a faulty mainboard and had
to be replaced and now it has no issues.

I ran tons of tests just like you, have you ran
the system test long and short that boots from
the other disc that comes with os x?

The long test caused a reboot, the short test would
report and error.

what version of os x are you running, you have
to have at least snow leopard 10.6.8

files/cache/previews should all be on your fastest volume.

I have all of those set to my Raid5.

Once, someone had accidentally set the preview/cache to the
system drive. I was pulling my hair out trying to figure
out why renders where taking so much longer. It was being
on the much slower sata drive instead of the Fiber Raid.

I’ve had that happen once in awhile. not all the time.

It is annoying since it’s possible to accidentally
open the wrong project.

I just wait for it to finish then close it.

as long as your at least doing a RAID 0 you should be doing quite well.

You should also get an NVidia card for GPU mercury transmit acceleration.
It makes a BIG difference.

I have a Raid 5 via fiber and a quadro 4000.
Very fast and no complaints.

If I’m not mistaken the 6.01 update added native support for C300.

Definitely get a supported GPU card, it really speeds things up.

if it’s gigabit it “should” be enough but
you’d be better off editing footage from a
local drive.

server system? as in shared storage, or just accessing files over the wire?

editing dslr footage straight up works very well in premiere.
no need for any transcoding.

Thanks Ann, I did click it but nothing happened,
after just now clicking it a bunch of times it finally
came up with a window about a missing font.
