I know some folks have had difficulty with that and instead
use the free black magic capture/output utility to layback to tape. -
whats the source footage and sequence setting?
If it’s prores quicktime, that alone will severely slow things down.

how do you access the non-quicktime mp4 you speak of?

use previews unchecked, highest quality checked.
also set the bar for 100 quality.
keyframes: 72
I’m using AME exporting quicktime with h.264 and the options button
is grayed out so its likely defaulting to single pass. -
It’s possible the the file caching on those that are out of sync
are messed up.go to the folder where the .mts files are, remove all the files
that premiere created next to them (the non .mts)then re-import them and let premiere sit while it caches them.
I had this happen once with cs6 but it could be a problem in cs 5 too.

if you send it to the queue, it opens the project independently, so you
should be able to work on other things. -
they’re on the adobe site under updates.

no it doesn’t like in final cut pro, but you can put
it in a 29.97 timeline and it will add pulldown
