its my understanding that right now H.264 is the most processor intensive codec in terms of encoding and decoding.
I don’t think it will be real time for quite awhile.
a 720P encoding will likely take 3-4 times longer than an equivalent
high quality mpeg2 HD transport stream. -

Can you tell me what a “long length of time” is to you?
are we talking 3 minutes maximum or 6 perhaps?
Walter what womble setting did you use?
one last question, when you go to the screen saver do you just turn on womble on2 and thats it? or does the actual screensaver need to to be in the on mode as opposed to off?

For HD Signage and tradeshows we too employ mpeg2 transport streams.
They work very well and run on relatively old systems.

funny, i noticed in the cow classifieds your black magic hardware for sale.
I wasn’t planning on defecting yet (multibridge extreme) but If our need for high quality HD up conversion becomes the norm, I’ll have a justification for swapping out the multibridge for a kona 3. heh heh.

well, I don’t know about the Avid codec, but I strictly do 95% of everything in 10-bit uncompressed in fcp.
We switched over to FCP from a discreet smoke about 1 year ago.
We’re much happier with the FCP system.
In our region, nobody knows how to use smoke, but everyone and there brother knows fcp. Though there are a few flame artists in town. -
I have a G5 Quad bought a year ago.
It has the factory installed burner.
I’ve burned nothing but Ritek in it and not had a problem.
One Problem I do have though, if we burn audio cd’s from toast
they will not play in most cd players which is odd. But if I Make
a copy it will play. weird. -
are the blacks gray on these westinghouse lcd’s?

or the panasonic 50″ 9uk plasma for $ 1,599 which
would you choose? -
yeah usually your blacks and whites in photoshop should
be in the 16-235 range. -
I bought a 50″ 9UK for $ 1,699 just before new years.
And it has a $ 100 rebate + 5 year warranty.
$ 1,599 is amazing for this panel.
