HD Still Graphics & Plasma’s….Walter??
Posted by Chris Borjis on January 8, 2007 at 11:57 pmJust wondering if you leave your plasma off when you are working on still graphics with the client behind you. We do a lot of after effects work and typically had the dell 24″ LCD on during any type of HD work for the day.
My 50″ 9UK just arrived today.
In the manual it states you should never have a still frame for any amount of time. This seems a bit ridiculous (though I understand why its not good on a plasma for after images)
If any of you are using it for still graphics, what screen saver settings are you using? I have womble on2 on but the screensaver itself is turned off.

January 9, 2007 at 12:15 amI own the 50 ” 8UK which is essentially the same set that you own. We have both a photography and Videography business. I’ve put together numerous presentations for both and all I can say is that you’ll never get an image to look as good on a plasma as you will with say an Apple 30″ LCD. We usually seperate our HD video material and our photographic material for the LCD.
However, to get to your question, most any flat screen displays are susceptible to screen burn in. If you insist on leaving the displays going with pictures just set them up in a slideshow which can easily be done in iPhoto, Lightroom or Aperture.

January 9, 2007 at 12:16 amI have no screen saver on and yes I do keep it on when building some graphics, but if something is going to be on the screen paused for a long length of time, I turn the display off.

January 9, 2007 at 1:08 amTurn on the “wobble” feature in the Panasonic setup, its imperceptable (suppsoedly) and yet it protects from burn-in, or so I’ve been told.

Maybe it’s me, but I really don’t trust any feature called “wobble.” 🙂

Try it, you’ll like it… It is imperceptable, so much so it makes me wonder if its really doing anything. Pany says it works, so…

I just did and my entire image moved up 2 pixels so it’s definitely doing “something.” I turned it back off.

January 9, 2007 at 3:01 amYeah, that’s the point of it. It slightly moves your picture around so that it’s not in the same place all the time, hence ‘wobble’.

January 9, 2007 at 7:33 amThe newest plasmas supposedly are very resistant to burn-in. Even without a wobble function.

Can you tell me what a “long length of time” is to you?
are we talking 3 minutes maximum or 6 perhaps?
Walter what womble setting did you use?
one last question, when you go to the screen saver do you just turn on womble on2 and thats it? or does the actual screensaver need to to be in the on mode as opposed to off?
Thanks for the replies. 🙂

30 minutes or so.
My plasma only shows Wobble On or Off
I didn’t even look at the screen saver settings, I just leave that off.
