Probably trying to liquidate their stock to make room for the 1080p plasmas, I’d imagine.

Will there actually be 1080p plasma screens ?

Oh yeah, they are coming if not already here:

    https://www.panasonic.com/business/provideo/proplasma/plasma_landing_page.asp

    They are marked ‘Full HD’

I just took delivery of the one Bob linked to before the holidays and it’s an awe inspiring display. I work mostly in 720p, so having a 1080p display didn’t really matter to me and as Bob has pointed out, the price was really right.

[Bob Zelin] “This is B+H Photo, showing the 50” hi end Panasonic Plasma (the one that AJA used at NAB2006, but the “next gen” version) for $1799. IN STOCK.

Is this cheap, or WHAT ?”

If you look at Panasonic’s own website, you see that they show the 9 model 50″ plasma much cheaper than the older 8 model.

    I bought a 50″ 9UK for $ 1,699 just before new years.

    And it has a $ 100 rebate + 5 year warranty.

$ 1,599 is amazing for this panel.

I just saw the new Westinghouse 42″ LCD display, with DVI, VGA, and analog component input.
This is a 1080p display, and it’s $1300, but my client just bought 9 of these, and they got them from Best Buy for $900 each !!!!!!!!

The world is changing (and there is some guy out there saying “I’m still gonna buy that $35,000 Sony BVM HD CRT monitor”).

The Westinghouse LVM-42w2 (42in) and LVM-47w1 (47in) are amazing displays. Both are native 1080P.

Beware – Westinghouse also makes some El Cheapo displays that don’t stack up, but this LVM series are the “real deal” !!

are the blacks gray on these westinghouse lcd’s?

    Hows the color?

if you had to choose between the 47″ 1080p westinghouse
or the panasonic 50″ 9uk plasma for $ 1,599 which
    would you choose?

Excellent blacks ! And the backlight is even adjustable.

One note: The way these come setup from the factory is awful, but anyone with a good eye (and/or a copy of Avia) can set one up perfect in a minute or two.

    Hi Borjis –

let me answer your question “which is better”. When you go to the NAB show in Las Vegas, and you see EVERY manufacturer of editing systems – AJA, AVID, Apple, Blackmagic – ALL using the Panasonic TH50 series monitor for their booths – even if there is a better display out there – you become very prejudice towards this model. With that said – money is money, and if you can “get away” with the cheaper display – then it becomes a good buy.

Most hi end houses that I am dealing with are simply buying the Panasonic 26″ BT-LH2600W. If they have a monster display in the room (42″, 50″, etc.) – it’s for a “client monitor”.

Bob Zelin (I miss the Sony PVM-20L5/1 CRT monitor).
