I agree with David 100%
My upgrade arrives this friday and I will most certainly be capturing/working on every single project in Pro-Res 10-bit.

I had a similar problem capturing HDV from a Canon XL-H1 but I was capturing via component uncompressed with the capture device set for uncontrollable device.
I’m not sure you can capture via firewire with the device set for uncontrollable, but I thought I did that once on my HD-100-U.

does the audio fill the timeline or is it shortened?
If it plays in quicktime fine, I would convert it to another format with mpeg stream clip. (this app has saved me so many headaches on past projects)

what if you next the HDV sequence into an SD pro-res sequence and export it that way?
You should not need to render the timeline unless you intended to play it out from there directly to a tape deck to ensure full res realtime layback without dropping frames.

720×576 (anamorphic)sounds correct to me. You could nest the dvcpro-hd sequence within a PAL D1 sequence.
as for cropping, you should be able to get the ratio you want within final cut pro. There’s a letterboxing section somewhere in the f/x section.

well if its dvcpro-hd I think you have to apply some kind of pulldown, or maybe thats only for varicam footage.

how big are they?
what sequence setting are you using?

what does SD footage look like on an HD timeline is what I’d like to know.
by default does FCP upsize it to fill a 4:3 pillarbox?
From that can you scale it further so it fills the 16:9 ratio without getting too ugly?
I’ve got a TV series coming up that will have HDCAM, XDCAM, a little HDV and some SD Betasp.
Would love to just drop it all in one timeline and have it work out.

Great to hear some nesting issues are finally worked out though, I was just having a conversation with a co-worker about that today. (inconsistent nesting issues)
