There is a problem I think Apple needs to fix…

I am editing a HDV sequence (1080i 50). The sequence settings have it so it be rendered to the ProRes 422 codec. So I let it render overnight.

Now… I need to take this sequence and export out a Quicktime file so I can save on DVD or portable HD to give to someone else. When I go to export the timeline, it seems FCP is re-rendering it again for export (it’s giving me the same estimated time to render) when it should be fairly fast… usually.

What export settings do I need to put out for it to export my timeline as quickly as it has in the past using the DV codec?

Perhaps it’s not an FCP problem but it’s a settings problem?

What export settings are you using.

what if you next the HDV sequence into an SD pro-res sequence and export it that way?

You should not need to render the timeline unless you intended to play it out from there directly to a tape deck to ensure full res realtime layback without dropping frames.

If I read you correctly that is. 🙂
