I’ve been editing a feature for months that was shot at 720p/24 on a firestore, and everything has gone as smoothly as can be…until now. Now FCP wants to import the footage at 59.94 fps rather than 23.98. This problem just popped out of nowhere. So I’ve looked at my capture presets for DVCPROHD – 720p24, 30 and 60, and THEY’RE ALL set to 59.94 framerates on the capture presets! I’m guessing this isn’t normal. And when I try to edit the settings of the presets, it won’t let me change the Quicktime Video settings.

This just came out of nowhere, and it’s driving me crazy. Anyone have any suggestions?

well if its dvcpro-hd I think you have to apply some kind of pulldown, or maybe thats only for varicam footage.

Yes that is normal as the Varicam always runs at 59.94 so that’s what FCP is expecting. It removes the pulldown on capture to get to whatever frame rate you intended (such as 24 or 30). If you shot on a firestore and didn’t record 24pN, then use the Panasonic Frame Rate converter to get your footage to 24.

I understand what you’re saying, but what doesn’t make any sense is that I’ve never had this problem before. I’ve been shooting my footage the same way since November of 06, and I’ve never had this happen, and I’ve never had to use a piece of third party software. I’m baffled as to why it’s happening now. If I had to guess, I’d say it’s a firestore issue. These things are known to have a few bugs here and there.

Thank you for your input though.

Perhaps a setting got flipped without you knowing it.

Try using the Panasonic Frame Rate converter, it comes with FCP 5.1.

I’m having the same problems as Beau. I’m cutting a feature shot on DVCPro HD 720p/24, and last night my assistant and I stayed late trying to get the damn deck to digitize at the proper frame rate (as indicated in the FCP Browser window). We found that SOME clips captured correctly and others did not, and it was completely hit or miss.

We had used Compressor to try to convert clips that had imported at 59.94, and it worked on some of them, but the 8 clips we worked on last night didn’t come out right in Compressor (hence the recapture attempt).

We’ve had problems using the Panasonic Frame Rate Converter plug-in… not sure why.

Any new developments in the last 4 days?

    Thanks.
