And it goes back to reminding me of when Steve Jobs pimped G5 architecture as so much faster and better than pc stuff and now his foot is in his mouth.
oh well, what can one do? nothing really, just spend more money I guess.
Still though, a just over a year old Quad G5 PCI-E with 4gb of ram and 4GB Fibre channel disk array should have been able to handle this and I really hope it does.

You have got to be kidding me.
That is totally unacceptable and I really hope apple is doing something to improve this situation.
That a less than 1 year old G5 Quad system can’t capture HD in the Pro res codec is a major “up yours” to apples customers.

There are wireless keyboards and mice on the 3 protools stations, but not on the quad G5 I wonder if thats whats causing it.

quicktime and the mac dvd player seem to have this problem.
I’ve noticed though that pc based software dvd players seem to blend them altogether.

Does anybody know what would cause a g5 dual core to eject its drive tray on startup and leave it open?
All 3 of our protools systems do this and its annoying (they are all sticking their tongues out at me lol)
The quad G5 does not do this.

dual link means you need 2 separate lines to achieve the higher resolution for 2k work.
DVI is very limited in length which is one of the main reasons HDMI was invented.
I would do DVI over cat5/6 network cable with those converter boxes since the network cable can go to at least 300 ft with no degradation.

Thats what resolution dvcpro-hd is and 1280×1080 for 1080i.

Nest the HD sequence into an SD sequence.
for #3 I would not upgrade in the middle of a project unless you have a cloned system drive that you can go back immediately to should you have a problem.
Can you not layback to tape from the avid then capture the footage in fcp?

are you sending it to them for further editing/broadcast or just to approve it?
I do “epprovals” with a quicktime file at 320x240x30fps.
Most of these are :30 or :15 TV spots so they are usually under 5mb and emailable.Way better than the old days of vhs approvals heh heh.
