ProRes does take about 2/3 longer to render than uncompressed, though the 6.01 update to fcs2 is supposed to improve that on G5 machines.

I have a ciprico 4210 via 4gb fibre channel, capable of capturing Viper and HDCAM-SR dual link.

Its the processors that can’t handle the on the fly encoding to prores.

I have not noticed any changes.

motion files rendered within fcp still take way longer than they should.

they said ProRes would work better in G5 systems.
My quad G5 still drops frames when capturing HD content via ProRes.
I wonder if they meant it can RENDER ProRes faster only.

I don’t think it will.

BlackMagic doesn’t really “support” 720P.

Those words were uttered to me directly from tech support some time ago
which makes no sense if they provide easy setup.

You can hardware downconvert 1080i to SD and it works great on the multibridge, but it only does 720 to SD in software and looks awful and unuseable.

You can also hardware downconvert 1080i and 720P on ingest to SD, but they won’t put in a 720 to 1080i cross conversion feature like the Kona 3.

I really wish they would just implement that already.

in that case any of these will work fine:

8 or 10-bit uncompressed works perfectly as does Animation and PNG quicktime codecs.

ProRes HQ is fantastic as well if you have fcp 6
