Basic Text….Missing Text, won’t show
Posted by Chris Borjis on June 15, 2007 at 5:33 pmWeird issue this morning,
opened an AE 7.01 (mac) project that has some animated text (basic text)
The text is not showing up, its missing, yet its there in the effects tab and you can edit the text and it shows up, just not on the screen.
I tried a brand new project, made a solid, added the text to that solid, same issue, no text showing up at all.
Anyone have some ideas how to fix this?

June 15, 2007 at 5:42 pmIs your text a different color than your background?
Black text will disappear into a black BG for example…

June 15, 2007 at 5:59 pmif that’s not it, make sure caps lock isn’t on… it will prevent the preview window from updating (rendering). it’s easy to have happen if you’ve been typing with the caps lock on.
if that’s not it, try edit>purge>all and move the timeline slider to see if the preview will update.
if that doesn’t help, try a reboot…

June 15, 2007 at 6:02 pmthe text is a different color, have also rebooted, I also re-installed the 7.01 update, no change.
The only thing that is different than when this file was last worked on is I upgraded Quicktime to the latest and Final Cut Studio 2.
Will try the purge.

June 15, 2007 at 6:12 pmrebooting should have purged everything, so i doubt that purge all will help…
if you want to troubleshoot quicktime, try removing all the qt components from library>quicktime and users>(user name)>library>quicktime. (don’t through them away, just put them somewhere else)
you can even try removing the qt and ae prefs from the users>username>library>preferences folder.

June 15, 2007 at 6:35 pm[Dave LaRonde] “You didn’t remove the typeface that the effect used, did you?”
no the font is there.
I even tried a new project, new comp, new solid, added basic text, and it will not show up.
so basic text is not working for me at all right now at this moment.
I’m using livetype right now to get by for my client today, but I need to get this fixed.I may uninstall then re-install after effects if I can’t get it working soon.

June 17, 2007 at 12:07 amHey Man,
I am having the same issue. I had no problems before – then upgraded to OS 10.4.9. / QT 7.1.6. last week and all my text plug-ins except for Path Text (which still incredibly works) are blank. The Timecode plug-in just shows the black window with nothing in it (and YES…the text is a different color than the window because it’s white over a black background by default – don’tcha love that one?).
I have tried everything everyone has mentioned here with no effect. I won’t be going back to an old OS or QT so I am stuck without the text plug-ins for now (hopefully CS3 will be good to me).
Will be monitoring this thread. C-ya 🙂

June 18, 2007 at 6:43 pmi have the same osx (10.4.9) and qt (7.1.6) on a macpro and i have no issues with the text effects (basic or timecode) so i don’t think the issue is with qt or the os itself.
there may be a problem with some codecs and the new qt, and i would start there… remove third party qt components from the library/quicktime and user/(name)/library/quicktime… leave the system/library alone.

I am sorry…but what would Quicktime have to do with the way After Effects displays text in the Comp Window? Nope…that’s not it. Tried it – still nothing.
You’re on a MacPro which is not the same. My issue is with 2 different PPC’s in 2 different locations (a Quad & a Dual 2.5). Your OS is not the same…it’s for the Intel machine.
Thanx anyway.

June 19, 2007 at 11:29 amThis just started happening to me too.
All solid layers with text effects added no longer work – any colour, any font. – Yes the caps lock is off thanks.
What is going on!
