Hi Tom thanks for the brainstorm.
Ok I’ve read through every post on the matter here at Creative Cow and it seems as though the problem was a corrupted Quicktime Pro .pkg file. Trashing it like the FCP prefs did the job.
This has felt like a very windows moment to me…

Thanks for the quick response.
Actually I tried once more following your suggestion and it still doesn’t work.
All it says in the preview monitor of the log and capture is “Preview Disabled.” But t me the strange thing is that I have deck control, Audio on the meters, and when I mark in and out it is reading the timecode from the tape…
So it knows the deck and tape are there, but it isn’t getting a video feed.
Really the only other thing I have done to the computer since it worked properly is install the demo program of HDlog.
Do you think that has anthing to do with it? It’d be crazy if it did… Otherwise I guess I’m looking at a reinstall of FCP but this is a awful prospect due to a deadline. I’d have to drive down to my main offices to get the install disks. I have the serial numbers is there anywhere I can download the program?
I’d rather not go this route so if there are any other thoughts I’d certainly appreciate it.
Thanks,
Chris

First of all thanks for the responses so quickly.
I havn’t yet experienced a file error on transfer yet. What happens when I do? Do I just erase the file and transfer it again? Or is the file corrupted forever?
A second question is I’m demoing the SPX800 and the HVX200 side by side today and so far the P2 technology is working fine. Other than wanting a batch import feature.
My real problem seems to be that I don’t think I have scene file that I’m happy with. The SPX is a 2/3″ chip camera and I have a HD Fujinon lens on it. But it looks 100% better than the HVX one one big issue. The HVX is riddled with noise in the image. I assume all responsibility for this for the time being as I’m still learning the technical engineering of cameras. but what would the top few scene file setting be that I should tweak to help the HVX out with this noise issue?
Thanks

May 25, 2006 at 10:56 am in reply to: Check This Out!! New-Must Have For All Of Us With Macs!!Sorry to ask a simple question like this but I’ve been doing all my research on cameras ad lenses and now am trying to consider replacing my G5 Dual 2 gig. This thread keeps referring to a new machine. What is the new machine? When is it expected to come out and where can I read up on it?
Thanks

ok now I’m trying to use compressor to make a sample clip and it says “Error: An internal error occurred: ContentAgent server not found.”
There’s no mention of this error in the manual.

I’ve had one for about 6 months now and think its amazing. Its battery is heavy though so beware if you’re mounting it on these cameras that are built for eng work that aren’t shoulder mounts. I posted in a different thread just today trying to find some good options for holding all this weight. But the litepanel is great for tight work, macro broll, in cars… anything close range. It won’t through as far as a sun gun. I got mine for half price on ebay and I think that’s the right price. The list is too expensive for my taste.
A very fun and practical tool though.

So I think if the camera does shoot in 1080i 30/24p then it explains why Barry Green referred to this camera in a DVUSER forum thread as a 1080p camera. Obviously the menu settings only let you select up to 1080i which would make someone think that the camera is shooting in interlace, but since you can choose 24/30p instead of 60i… it makes a Broadcast ready InterProgessivelaced image… I feel like I’m being asked to chase my tail here. Especially since the rumor of a firmware update is possible that would allow for 1080pn shooting.
Its not the end of the world either way I just want a full and complete explanation. Again if there is a white paper or what have you available somewhere I’ll read up on my own.
{{I have no inside info on this, but I can say with a great degree of assurance that the whole premise of this thread (a new 1080p model etc) is without any factual basis. Especially since the current version *is* a 1080p model…}} — Barry Green

Oh thanks Jan!!! That has been a question for months now that I haven’t gotten a good answer to. Thank you. I suppose I still don’t know what is happening technically but that’s ok. Is there and explanation in a white paper? I suppose if a client asked me to explain to them whether or not we’re shooting actual progessive or interlaced footage I’d still have to go back and give the utility of each. So is this also a feature on the HVX200? Does it really shoot 1080i 30P? Does the 720 30pn footage you shoot with the HVX200 fallinto the true progressive for film out catagory or the interlaced broadcast ready progressive?
