I am seriously considering the purchase of an on-board mini Lightpanel for my new HVX 200. I am missing the low light sensitivity of the DVX 100A, and need to address this for documentary shooting with the HVX. The Lightpanel is expensive, but seems like well designed technology with useful accessories. I would appreciate hearing any reviews, opinions or advice about the Litepanel product.
    Thanks.

    I think they rock.

I’ve had one for about 6 months now and think its amazing. Its battery is heavy though so beware if you’re mounting it on these cameras that are built for eng work that aren’t shoulder mounts. I posted in a different thread just today trying to find some good options for holding all this weight. But the litepanel is great for tight work, macro broll, in cars… anything close range. It won’t through as far as a sun gun. I got mine for half price on ebay and I think that’s the right price. The list is too expensive for my taste.

A very fun and practical tool though.

Many thanks for the response. Yes I know that battery weight is an issue. I plan to use a belt mounted Anton Bauer battery to keep the weight off the camera. I have heard that the daylight balanced head is the way to go even if you use the Litepanel mostly indoors. I guess it’s easier to balance the daylight head to tungsten or fluorescent light with the supplied filter set, rather than the other way around. By the way, I have found the manual white balance to be more accurate to my eye on the HVX than the DVX.
