I have Crucial mixed with Apple memory on both my G5 and Powerbook, and both work flawlessly. I haven’t seen any concrete proof that mixing memory causes problems. I think it is just a theory.

Does the computer crsah, or do you just get the spinning ball? If it’s the spinning ball, just wait. It may take a few minutes, but eventually, it will go away. Don’t ask me why this is, but sometimes this happens with Capture Now. The solution, at least with your camera, is to do a Batch Capture.

Try removing the video, and see if the audio plays. i have found that even the slightest glitch in the video will sometimes cause your audio to drop out briefly, but only when playing out the firewire, so it plays fine on the computer, but not out to your deck. Try re-capturing that clip. If the problem persists, try dropping in a cutaway over the video.

  • My understanding is that you need a Kona Card.

The new apps do not require Tiger. They will run just fine on Panther, so if you’re nervous about upgrading the OS, just wait until the dust settles.

    Andy,
You probably have a little glitch or disturbance in your video. Oftentimes, when this happens, for some reason, you’ll get an image but audio will not play over the firewire at that spot. You’ll get audio if you export to a DVD, but not out to tape. Take another look at your video at that point, and I’ll bet that you’ll find a little disturbance in the picture. Go back and look at your source footage, and if you don’t see it there, recapture. If not, see if you can find a cutaway to replace that piece or eliminate it all together. It’s probably only a few frames of video.

Ditto on the viewfinder. Very contrasty and harsh, although I must admit that I didn’t play with the settings.

I agree, Tom. Add to that the fact that the JVC deck accepts full-size DV cassetes compared to the mini, 60 min. load on the Sony.

It’s interesting that Go Video manufactures a DVD burner, since their players are notorious for not being able to play DVD-Rs.

    Multi-cam support
Hardware control of audio level on-the-fly
