  • Editing Native HDV in FCP 5? What do a need to get an HD signal out to an HD client monitor?

Posted by Jwood on May 1, 2005 at 6:21 am

First off, I’m totally new to FCP, but this gig is going to require me to use it. I’ve been on Avid for 7 years.

I digress … back on topic.

I will be editing the show using native HDV footage.

My question is, what will I need to get the HDV signal from FCP to an external HD client monitor?

Will a simple transcoder like the Canopus ADVC 100 work? Or would I need to use the Sony HDV camera it’s self?

Any help on this topic would be grateful.

    Thanks

My understanding is that you need a Kona Card.

I would guess you could use the camera depending on what kind of outputs it has and what kind of inputs the monitor has.

AJA has already announced that the Kona 2 will support FCP 5 when it’s released so I’m guessing it will support realtime playback of HDV to an external monitor like it support DVCPro HD realtime playback right now.

Or a Decklink card too should work. Couple that with an HDLink and a 23″ Cinema Display, and you’re laughing for HD monitoring.
