  • Don,

I’m really confused on this issue about what works and what doesn’t on a non-Intel Mac. I have a Power Book that I would like to be able to use with my EX, but I thought that you need the clip-browser software in order to do the .mov conversion that is required for FCP. Is it possible to transfer & edit EX files in a G4 Powerbook?

I just had my hands on one today at a trade show. It’s from Libec. It’s due out in about 3 weeks. Cost, I’m told will be about $220.

    David,

If you were bringing in 2-3 hours of footage from the EX using direct file transfer, would you then transcode it all to ProRes before editing, considering the time it would take to do so? Or, would you capture it to ProRes using SDI / Kona, or would you just edit it in native XDCAM?
What do you think would be the best workflow, considering the large amount of footage?

There is a limit in FCP to the size of images that it can accept. I’m not sure what that is, but you might try reducing the size of your stills and see what happens.

Is the conforming necessary if you are only going to DVD, and maybe a self-contained Quicktime file for archiving and not back to tape?

I had this identical problem a couple of years ago with Boris FX. I can’t remember the cause, unfortunately, but it seems to me that it might have had to do with the change to IBM processors in the G4. Nevertheless, I think it only occurred when I exported directly from FCP to compressor rather than making a reference movie first, or vice-versa.

That’s certainly the best solution, but my impression is that he has already shot the footage.

I’m new to this camera and also to HDV, but if I had to deliver in HDV, I would import the footage from the camera using the firewire output (HDV) from the camera and then edit the project in HDV. That way, you are in HDV all the way through the process.

    Walter,

Are there any Blu-Ray players out there that will play recordable discs? I know my Samsung BD-P1400 does not support BD-R.
