Cover flow. Interesting idea. Though I bet most editors (especially the Avid converts) would say – too flashy – takes to long to “flip” thru your clips.

    Maybe good for iMovie?

just add reel numbers to each clip. Since you don’t care/unable to recapture you can assign any number you want. Unless these numbers can help you trace the clips, then make some sort of numbering system, 001, 002, per capture or per day or etc.

That should take care of it.

I would prefer logging as well over capturing whole tapes. But I cut a lot of broadcast docs and it is definitely more efficient to capture the tapes. So I suggest using markers to label scene breaks or important moments.

The best part of markers are that:

    1) You are navigate thru them easily
    2) Make them into subclips easily
    3) Open a clip in the Browser to give you a list view of the markers
    4) Can still scan over a reel as Mark mentioned.

    I prefer it over subclips.

Delete the thumbnail cache file. That may take care of it.

There is your issue. You should reverse tele to 23.98 via Cinema Tools. 23.98 will output to 29.97 via FW onto your NTSC monitor. 24fps sequences/media will not output to 29.97 via firewire. One of the hardware cards may do this but I’m not 100% sure. The old Aurora film card used to do this but they’re long gone.

It does indeed work. I offlined an entire feature with this. Are you sure your sequence/media is 23.98 and not 24?

And are your external video settings correct? All frames, Apple firewire NTSC?
