No. Disk Utility doesn’t see the drive. And Apple Profiler doesn’t see the unit as far as I can tell – what should it show up as in the profiler?

    Shane,

I just got one of these USB/IDE/SATA adapter from Geeks.com but it’s not mounting the drives on my MBP. What are the specs of your machine that you’re hooking it up to? I’m on 10.5.1. I wonder if it’s an OS thing?

    Thanks,

Look at the Bad TV filter – that will get you pretty close. There’s a flash to white – which is prob just a quick dip to color transition between the two clips. Nest them and then use the Bad TV – that’s how you can get the scrolling and some interference lines and even static if you want.

[walter biscardi] ” Generally folks check their emails or web browse during processes like Renders and Captures or just to take a break for a few moments. Quitting out, rebooting just to check email and internet would be an inefficient way of setting up. “

Yes, I agree that it’s not the most convenient method. I used my system to check email and use at he web without hesitation. But if he was worried about it, I think a separate partition is the best method of safety short of buying a second computer.

As someone said, a second user would also be a alternative method. I suppose FCP would keep rendering if you switched users. Never tried it.

The easy fix to this is to have two partitions to boot from or two separate drives to boot from. One solely for editing, and the other for all your other stuff.

No one would suggest making your business decisions based on these rumors (although many other industries do make decisions based on rumors or rumblings in the streets). Nonetheless, it’s fun to hear what may be coming up in the pipelines.

The exception of the upgrade being incremental was from G4PB to intel macbook Pros. It leap quite a few steps.

In an interview, I often opt to use Markers instead of subclips. Move the playhead to the appropirate frame, M to add a marker, M again to name that marker.

[Jason] “Just like slipping a clip, what a pain in the ass choosing the tool, then selecting the slip then pressing the slip buttons.”

If that’s what you’re doing, then you’re doing it wrong. Slip by mouse dragging requires “S” to activate Slip tool, then drag the clip. To slip with keyboard, select clip, then “S”, then trim with keyboard. I have no idea what you’re doing from your description.

[Jason] ” In an Avid you just park over it and slip away”
In Avid, you have to drag the marque around the clip from the right direction or you have to get into segment mode, select the clip, then switch into trim mode.

Maybe you know a secret way to get into slip in Trim mode?

perhaps a HUD display a la Motion would be a good solution? It can show effects and motion properties.

This is because the freeze is just a generated image that no longer has timecode. I honestly have never had to match back to a freeze frame in all my work. Didn’t even know that was an issue.”

Well, this is one case where I have to say that Avid does it better. In FCP, the freeze doesn’t have a timecode but Avid can keep track of it somehow and that’s a better implementation. You may never had to match back a freeze frame but plenty of people do, and they’ve frequently asked about it from Avid to FCP.
