capture full tape then break into pieces
Posted by Dave Jenkins on July 28, 2007 at 1:05 amWhat is the best way after capturing a full tape to break it into separate clips in a bin and name them individually? The tape is interviews and we want to break out each question.
Thanks, Dave

July 28, 2007 at 1:15 amShot on DV? Use DV Start/Stop detect. Select the markers in the browser and press Cmd-U to make them all subclips.
All the best,

July 28, 2007 at 9:16 amsubclips are pretty well behaved these days.
about a year ago i saw them playing up when moving a project between 2 FCP systems.
that was a traditional weak point for subclips, so watch out for that.and there *could* be problems if you use them in multiclips.
i wont say there will be problems, because my particular problem was very specific.
it would be good to hear from someone else re subs in multiclips.
or test it for yourself.cheers,

July 28, 2007 at 10:16 amEven if you capture the whole tape, do yourself a favour and capture it with in and out markers.
I’ve seen audio sync slipping at times when capturing “direct” but never had this issue when capturing logged clips.Regards,

July 28, 2007 at 2:23 pmI subclip all the time, changed the command from apple U to just U so it goes quicker.
Only minor annoyance – if you have to go to STP with a subclip, it brings in the whole master clip, and then STP gets so bogged down that it becomes unmanageable to use.
In these instances, I just recapture the area I need to send to STP as a small master clip.

July 28, 2007 at 3:52 pmIn an interview, I often opt to use Markers instead of subclips. Move the playhead to the appropirate frame, M to add a marker, M again to name that marker.
