I also highly recommend FirstCom. They have obtained teh libraries of several other companies, so as of any that I am aware of, their library is the largest, andtheir music is easily editable for length, along with the fact almost all selections have several lengths available. I have been using them for over 16 years not.

No I was referring to havingt a video clip that you keep in stock for use with any system. Years ago you could buy film swish pans along with other effects. I’ve never seen any video packages that contained a swish pan, so I just took a camera walked outside rolled the camera and did a few fast spins. ya only need a half second anyhow.

Grinner, ole buddy,
I know exactly where you are coming from. The day I slowed down was when my youngest daughter went to her mother and asked, “Mommy, are we ever gonna see daddy anymore?”
I tell you that tears your heart out. I cut hours, and changed my shifts so I could see more of the family at night. Now after they were all grown and out of teh house I went back to more hours, but never as many as I was working before.I love ya guy, hang in there, I hope beyond hope that your dream becomes a reality. Take time to enjoy those gorgeous kids of yours.

I don’t use this effect as much as I use to, but when I do, I always try to keep a swish pan in my files that I can just cut between two shots, never more than a half second. If you shoot it nice and fast, there is nothing in the shot that distinguishes where the swish pan was shot. Try it you’ll like it.

In the suite I use to work in, our runs to the machine room were well over 20 feet, probably closer to 50 feet. I don’t see a major problem, just have controls switchable so you have the control to make the switch so they don’t take it from you while you are using it. Make it so they have to personally ask you to make the switch. Just don’t get cheap on the component cables.

[Aaron] “Is frame accurate recapture from a LTC tape reliable?”
Yes
[Aaron] ” Which one is largely broadcast spec.”
Actually both, but broadcast spec isn’t really an applicable definition of either.
[Aaron] “Does it depend on their station specs?”
Again not actually applicable.LTC is much easier to work with for most all productions. If your equipment doesn’t mask the VITC upon capture or editing, you could have both on the master and they will probably not be the same, which can confuse some equipment. You can never go wrong using LTC exclusively.

The differences are very simple actually. VITC is recorded with the video and is located in the Vertical Interval, which is quite logical since VITC stands for Vertical Interval Time code.
LTC again self explanatory is Longitudinal TIme Code, which is recorded on a sopecial audio track. The advantages of VITC is that it reads the time code better at low speeds and actually stopped on a freeze frame, LTC is guessing, albeit a damn good guess most of the time when stopped and can read quite well at low speeds.
Disadvantages of VITC it is overwritten when recording video. Thusly it can have a big jump in time code and can actually be different from the LTC time code in certain recording situations. as a result VITC is not good for the record end of editing. It can also be retained into the recording if not masked during the editing session.
My personal feelings are to refrain from using VITC in most situations because the disadvantages outweigh the advantages immensely.
I know this is not what you asked, but hope it help.

September 27, 2005 at 4:14 pm in reply to: Need some advice on Producing/Directing ConcertI had a similar experience approximately 30 years ago. I made all orchestra rehearsals, was unable to make choir rehearsals since they were from out of town. I blocked every camera shot. Prepared an AD to help send cameras to their respective shots as they were released from prior shot. Everything worked out very well except one thing.
The first time I had an opportunity to see the venue was the night before the concert. The setup in the venue showed me that I was unable to get some shots of certain sections with the camera I had blocked, so I spent the entire night before the concert reblocking (at home) therefore I was one very tired man when I went into the concert. I had isolated some cameras for cut-ins during editing, as a safety measure, some worked some didn’t. The wide shot was a godsend, and I used some wide shots that weren’t necessarily from the section being played at the time. The only person that caught that was the orchestra/choir director.
The only thing I can say is whatever you charge for your services probably won’t be enough for the work you will be putting into it, but the experience you will receive will be priceless.

As much as I would love to do everything on Digi-Beta, I can’t see any advantages, other than having your archive in a beter quality for future use. I wonder how you intend to transfer from Digi-Beta to DV Express without Mojo. YOu wouldn’t have an analog input, yuo couldn’t use Digi-Beta native format for SDI transfer, have you thought about that?

If you are talking about the physical substance of paint, such as in a can of paint. I have used it many times. once had a white card at an angle and poured paint onto it above the camera sight and let it run down til the screen was filled. I also used it once to key from the center by taking a half ball, drilling a hole into it using a plastic tube pumped paint out the top and let it run down all sides til it filled the screen. There are many ways to use paint.
Hope this is what yuo were talking about, and it helps. Oh by the way the first time was about 35 years ago. You had to improvise a lot back then for some effects.
