Hi, we are making a short film, and are about to get the rushes back from the lab (shot on s16mm). I want it back on Digibeta, but since I’m editing on Avid Express DV, without Mojo, are there any advantages to get from using Digibeta?

When digitizing, won’t the quality drop down to normal DV (3.6 MB/sec)? Ultimately, my question is: are there any advantages getting the footage back on Digibeta, when operating on my system?

Otherwise, I have to get it back on DV from the lab…

As much as I would love to do everything on Digi-Beta, I can’t see any advantages, other than having your archive in a beter quality for future use. I wonder how you intend to transfer from Digi-Beta to DV Express without Mojo. YOu wouldn’t have an analog input, yuo couldn’t use Digi-Beta native format for SDI transfer, have you thought about that?

Yup, I can transfer, I have an analog to digital (firewire )adapter. However, I have decided to abandon this idea, and will follow a more standard procedure. I’m getting back the rushes on Digibeta and DV, and will make an offline edit from the DV tape, and create an EDL. And if the film is successful, we will apply for a small grant to upgrade the film, and do the online edit from the Digibeta tape at an external production house.

Well I would get Digibeta transfer if you can afford it. If you ever decide to do an online edit you’ll have the capability to do better color correction et cetera than if you have just DV tapes.
