i was wondering if any of you knew how to do that fast pan with blur effect transition using vegas, or if theres a plugin out there that can achieve it. i cant really recall a specific instance or movie where its used right now, but its used mostly when moving the subject in different places or backgrounds. its common but really cool.

The simplest way is to record the fast pan at the end of one shot and the beginning of the next, then add blur or motion blur as required, and cross fade between the two.

In Vegas you could try using pan crop with motion blur, but you’d need to first zoom in to be able to pan across the frame – that’s why doing it in camera is better. Maybe experiment with several layers, panning across each in turn.

I don’t use this effect as much as I use to, but when I do, I always try to keep a swish pan in my files that I can just cut between two shots, never more than a half second. If you shoot it nice and fast, there is nothing in the shot that distinguishes where the swish pan was shot. Try it you’ll like it.

No I was referring to havingt a video clip that you keep in stock for use with any system. Years ago you could buy film swish pans along with other effects. I’ve never seen any video packages that contained a swish pan, so I just took a camera walked outside rolled the camera and did a few fast spins. ya only need a half second anyhow.
