your off to a good start. i edited a very long 3 day shoot successfully this way:

i did the project in sections (separate veg ).

i gave the client a DVD with the timeline code at the bottom for each section.

they told me the parts they wanted and where items were to be inserted.

i placed markers at those points, then started from the END of each project, turning ON the ripple edit before inserting or deleting.
it went great and they loved the finished product.

1440 X 960 (for NTSC standard def). doesn’t sound too large. That’s about what I lowered mine down to in a hi-def production. What format stills are you using?

Try changing (lowering the res. and change the file type) for one five second section and see if it renders. Also, I found that having unused video tracks in my project also crashed V8.

i found that if i use very high resolution stills, Vegas 8 will crash every time. and i’m using a quad core q9300 with 4 gigs of ram. try lowering the pix resolution on the stills, then test render a section.

what i would do is: find a nice arrow graphic on the web, then edit it and turn it into a png file with alpha channel. inport it into vegas and animate it with keyframes.

    Kary,
It looks like you started off doing a full screen capture from your square pc monitor. This was your mistake, if you intend on showing this in the widescreen format.

You need to capture a rectangular area of your screen instead.

set your “full render quality” to “Best” and keep it there.
