Hi Stephen
It will be in different formats. I will make blueray when I get a burner, and I want it to be hd on youtube. But I also make SD DVDs for friends.
Like I said, I want the canvas size of HD, as I have 3-4 4×3 SD shots that will play at once at maybe 150% of thir normal size. Sometimes I will blow one shot up to fill the screen with black columns on the sides. I didn’t realize that upscailing required taking the footage to a special business just for that. I figured there would be some preset in Compressor. I am amazed at the image I get with my DVD player upscailing SD footage to my Sony HDTV. So I thought I could help the clips I want to play large, and the others will take up relatively the same space pixle-wise.
So before I meticulously edit 10 min of an HD FCP/Motion project I want to know if pixels on video will stretch up then back down without much degradation.
Thanks
Chad

If my final output is SD or youtube 16×9 will stretching it up and shrinking it back down lose more resolution than if I just worked at SD all the way?
I’m thinking that since I am fitting 3 or 4 clips of the SD footage at a time on an HD canvas, my resolution won’t be as bad as if I tried to stretch 1 SD clip all the way up to HD.

I just found the render files from a large project (2 hours of video) in a slightly older project folder. I would nave never thought to look in there. I just happened to hit the folder and found gigs and gigs of audio render files.
I wish FCP would just keep a project’s render files within the folder the project resides in. That seems so basic. Does anyone know if there is a preference where you can tell FCP to do that?

Hi Stephen
I never did figure out why id disappeared. It did just show up around 2-3 weeks later. Try opening an old proj, and see if it’s there. Or maybe a blank project. All I know it came back one day when I started a new project.

Hi Alan
Thanks for responding.
I just tried your suggestion and it’s not working. I did it while Motion was closed, and when I opened it up it wrote a new “com.apple.motion.plist” file. Then I tried deleting it with a project open, no luck. I also tried opening a old project that I knew I could see the cameras on, and cameras were visible. I’ve toggled on/off all 3D overlays, and I’m stumped. The fact that I could see cameras on an old project gives me hope.
Do you have any other ideas?

Hey Noah
So your suggestion seemed to work at first, but it get’s a little buggy. Is there any special considerations to be aware of?
At the moment I have 4 circles as the beginning construction of the molecule. I plan on having maybe 8 more. When I am in camera view they follow the camera as expected, but when I start to record, or set key points on the camera position the circles start to act oddly and lose at least one of their access points through which they follow the camera.
• Is there some special way I need to program camera moves so as not to loose the “point at” connection?
• The “balls” are 1mb .psd files that are 720px across, but resized down to 50% in the inspector. Maybe their size is effecting the buggyness? Would there be a better image type/size?
• I want to put chapter names on the balls and fly into them and out of them between chapters of a presentation.
• Also there is no copying and pasting of “point” behaviors. I need to set each one by hand or the again lose 1 or 2 of the points of access to follow the camera.
Thanks for any suggestions you or anyone has on the subject.

PS I am running an 8 core Mac Pro with 5 gigs of ram, so my hardware should be good enough…
