Thanks Mark
Do I put the motion tracking behavior on the mask or the duplicated clip?

September 10, 2009 at 6:54 pm in reply to: 720pn 24 playback issue in FCP 6: audio is about 5% too slowThe solution, in my case was not to trash my prefs, which I tried many times. My slow audio in FCP persisted. I was able to set the Sequence to 44.1Hz and get audio to sound right, but that pulled me out od NTSC specs. So for those who still have the problem after trashing your prefs, this worked for me:
The solution is to change your Audio Midi Setup Settings to 48k.
• Go to: Applications>Utilities>Audio Midi Setup.
• Under “Audio Devices” set the Audio Input, and Audio Output Format to 48000.0 Hz.This is the only thing that fixed the problem for me.
Pass it on.

UPDATE:
I’m sorry to say that the damn problem came back. I trashed my prefs – problem fixed when I tested it out. Today I opened an old project – no sound. Before I had slow sound – normal video. So did what I did originally which was to set my Sequence Settings to 44.1k (rather than the default 48k). It at least lets me continue working.
I did an experiment –
1: I exported a clip with the new 44.1k sampling rate – video plays fine, but I don’t know if the video file now is off NTSC standards as I can’t tell the audio sampling rate through “Get Info”
2: Even though I heard no sound at 48k, I exported and the video plays back normal, but the audio plays back slow.
Maybe it does have something with the latest update before the “New” Final Cut Studio suite update to FCP7. I just wish I could figure out what is tweaking my audio. Could old projects screw with my newly built prefs? Hard to say.
Let’s keep up the conversation to hopefully find a way out. If I can’t export NTSC video I’m screwed as far as work goes.

Hi Ethan!
Simple Fix: Trash your preferences. I have had the 6.6 update for a while. It is not the issue.
There are four files to trash when trying to trash the preferences.
workstation>Mac HD>Users>Workstation>Library>Preferences>com.apple.FinalCutPro.plist
workstation>Mac HD>Users>Workstation>Library>Preferences>Final Cut Pro User Data>Final Cut Pro 6.0 Prefs
workstation>Mac HD>Users>Workstation>Library>Preferences>Final Cut Pro User Data>Final Cut Pro Obj Cache
workstation>Mac HD>Users>Workstation>Library>Preferences>Final Cut Pro User Data>Final Cut Pro Prof Cache
When you delete these files and restart FCP each of these will be rebuilt.

I just want to add that I too am having audio issues. My audio now plays slow in Final Cut Pro. Whether it’s an old project that never had an issue, or it’s a brand new project that I drop video (with audio) onto. I can make it play normal by setting the audio sample rate in the Sequence Settings from the normal 48k to 44.1k. This gets me through the moment but it is not a real solution.
It’s not an issue with my audio interface because I turned it off and switched to my internal speaker, and the same thing happens. I’m pretty sure something tweaked my FCP.
Did those of you having the problem ever resolve it? Did you maybe re-install final cut pro? Any suggestions would be appreciated, as this is not cool, and I have clients projects that I don’t want to mess up.
Thank you!

With as much money you will blow on getting the EX1 at Canada pricing, you may as mell just buy a ticket to New York, and go to B&H in person. Think about it, how much does a round trip weekend to NY cost? I bet it’s less than 1,500.00US. So get your butt on a plane to B&H.
EX1 6,099.00
You need a decent wireless system:
Sennheiser EW112P G3 LAV SYS (B) EK100/SK100/ME2
https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/618741-REG/Sennheiser_EW_112P_G3_B_EW112P_G3_LAV_SYS.htmlAnd the G2 can be had for cheaper while supplies last, but I’d hold out for the G3 personally.
You need BOTH a shotgun and a hyper mic. Shotguns aren’t for indoors remember. Rode has some great mics. You’ll also need a boom pole, wind muff etc.
Rode NTG-2 Shotgun: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/400806-REG/Rode__NTG_2_Battery_or_Phantom.html
Though I prefer the Sennheiser ME66/K6: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/421933-REG/Sennheiser_ME66BK_ME66_K6_Shotgun_Microphone.html
A great Hyprecardioid for indoor dialog, or even music or a play. I use 2 in conjunction with a Rode NT-4 Stereo mic for stage performances, but they do great on a boom, or getting a nice VO on location in someone’s office who doesn’t want to come in for a testimonial or whatever: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/233750-REG/Rode_NT3_NT3_Cardioid_Studio.html
Throw in a few long XLR cables, some Magic Bullet Looks software, maybe a Roland R-44 4 track field recorder if more than 2 track audio is important.
All in all if you add up all the basics: Camera, Tripod (400.00 – 2,000.00), Shotgun mic, Hyper mic, 2 Shock mounts (one for boom, one to go into the mic holder on the EX1 because the NT3 won’t fit) cables, large battery, SxS cards (frickin’ expensive), then compare the US pricing to Canada pricing, and decide if the difference is more than the cost to travel straight to B&H, I think you’ll find some savings there and have some gear you won’t want to replace right from the get go.
Good Luck!

So I think what Jan is saying is that the EX1 is clearly the better camera.

Hi Bogiesan
I don’t need to decide, as I know I want to use Motion’s motion blur. When one does a round-trip into Motion from FCP, the clips that were on the FCP timeline disappear, and are replaced with one clip representing everything that happens in the Motion project.
Where the problem lies is where one usually chooses to apply motion blur in Motion, which is in the export dialog options. Only with a round-trip there is no export of the final Motion file because it’s in the form of a clip in the FCP timeline that changes whenever you make a change in the Motion project.
So how does one choose to use motion blur in this “round-trip” scenario? Anyone?

It’s 6 months since the last post on this thread.
Can anybody say if the EX1’s firmware update has fixed this clicking sound problem? I plan on buying this camera, and the uncompressed audio is a major reason I am spending the extra money for it. I don’t want to make the purchase, then get into a black hole of waiting for Sony to address the issue.
What’s the status boys?
Thanks
