August 17, 2015 at 12:45 pm in reply to: Creating a character out of lots of pictures (squares)sorry I’m not sure which of the mograph modules(if any) are available to the lite version. You need to make sure you can clone to a shape volume and use the inheritance effector to transition between them. (not sure if theres another way to do it, thats how I usually do)
As for the 2d look, c4d won’t impose any limitations, you may as well use a parallel camera. not sure if the tracer is available too… having white stroke lines following some of your photos would help sell the animation. The spring effect of the delay effector is also a plus.
As for tutorials on the animation, just search for terms like “morphing between cloners”.

indeed it is very good news…

if you want to get alpha shadow with cineware just set a white plane on c4d and make sure it gets the shadows…set an object buffer for that plane.
Within AE duplicate your cineware layer…turn on its pass mode to that object buffer.
Use that as a matte for yout main cineware layer that you can later either remove the white or simple change it to multiply.

[Jason Jantzen] “It’s not a very good fix if you end up trying to move the camera around.”
I disagree. I think it works. You can set it up rather quickly, and even if you need to move the camera around you can probably link the light to the camera and figure some math (to the properties and camera distance) that would make the matte stay consistant during the movement.
[Ari Grunzeweig] “Can you explain a bit more please?”
Its pretty much what Jason said. You need 3 plexus instances, leave two above and one behind your text. set the topmost one to colorize with lights (I’m during render right now so I can’t check the proper property name). Create a light at your camera and set its radius/decay to only reach the middle of your plexus sphere. Use that as a matte for the second plexus that will be the “front half” of your sphere. (maybe you’ll need some curves adjustments and such to make it clean).

plexus has no camera cut out feature as most other plugins do…this is a serious limitation in my opinion. You may be able to fake that using lights with instances of the same animation to create a luma matte of front part only.

And probably doable in a same fashion with Element 3d (as Kalle suggested). You’d have to populate 2 shapes (groups) with the same number of particles and transition between them with the animation engine. You can have it transition to more shapes if you do it in pairs. You wont have total control in the motion to get a “liquid feel” as you would in C4d though.

I think you have to choose an axis, if you leave it to “All” it doesn’t seem to get it quite right.

Seems to be a matter of how are you interpolating your keyframes…A linear mode would give you that behaviour. A bezier mode should give you the bounciness. A bezier clamped would give you the easiness without the overshoot.
Open up a timeline for that track and check for those things to get your desired behaviour.

Most of it was already painted that way but there are some things you can do to improve it.
Adding bright layers in screen mode with a low opacity where a light would be will contribute to the realism. (Video 1 the volumetric light)
Any post bloom effect will make bright areas bleed into dark ones, after some more color correction it may give you the impression that you have painted it that way.
Light wrap effects on characters masking one side can add a rim light look in post. (video 3).
