Walter is talking about a setting in Trapcode’s Form plugin. I’m almost certain you can’t do that with CC particle World.

  • If it was a stroke in the first place you could just convert it to shape.

But in the end, what’s the purpose of creating that mask? Are you using it to reveal the camera icon? If you are, I’m trying to imagine why do you need that photoshop part?

    [Richard Garabedain] “Beam does that?”

that what? that mosaic’d gradient look?

You could do that in several ways, I would do with a gradient shape layer, mosaic or posterize effect, and mask animation. Since I’ll only need to animate it once.

  • I’m guessing that’s normal behaviour from getting bigger and smaller at the same time, at one frame the pixels occupy a right columm and on the next the rounding takes them somehow to the left.

I can think of some things you could try to easy that shaky feeling:

1- Make it all happen slower or faster.
2- Give it some influence so its not all that linear.
3- Blur a little and sharpen later
4- animate the stroke down as you make it bigger, so you can adjust it all better while mantaining the “not changing” look (while actually changing a bit)
5- easy up that contrast. Is that your final art look? you could work with some ilumination and textures, it may smooth things around.

  • You’ll add adjustments to the unkeyed/masked patch. I’m betting there’s no way a curves and levels wouldn’t be able to match the keyed output.

No I meant you animate a single beam appearing and disapearing. Pre comp that.

Now you create a solid and add a particle engine plugin that has the ability to use layers as texture, such as Trapcode’s Particular.

Use the plugin’s properties to do the things I told you before.

Well, with those conditions, you’ll have to have a moving mesh that has the same displacement wave amplitude and speed that you have set on psunami. (imported into Element)

You’ll need that to occlude the ship’s hull.

You need to make the Y movement up and down and the X rotation go with that wave amplitude too.

Can psunami output its displacement as luma? If not, you’ll have a hard time guessing and reproducing.

I don’t think you can do that with the current implementation of shape layers. At least not with the functionality you intend.

  • You’ve got no suggestions because we have absolutely no idea what exactly is going on. Maybe post some video of the problem? A file?

How shake is it? is it a bug? is it judder because of frame rate/scale?

[Ristian Rebolos] “1. Is there a faster way to do this with the particle effect instead of me copy pasting these layers and randomizing the stats of each one to look more fluid?”

yes, precomp one of them, crop it to the edges (so your particle has a manageable resolution) and feed it to a particle engine as an animated texture.

Have the engine help you with the duplicates, size, positions and even timing and coloring if you set it properly.
