Thats true. I’ve never actually tested after they made that change. I thought you could…

Well, you can somehow fake the occlusion, by either using mattes or the camera cut out property, but this will be tricky (and messy) if you have any camera moves at all, So I can’t come up with anything else but suggest you go to a more robust particle engine.

    good luck

you’ll have to use two emitters inside the same Particular instance, either have them follow lights or use two motion paths. Otherwise you can’t make they play nice together =P since they can’t see each other. That’s the major downside of TC’s Particular if you compare it to Superluminal’s Stardust.

Is you spacebar set to preview or to caching then preview?

There is a difference between trying to do realtime preview and caching, then playing from ram. Which here is the numpad 0 key.

  • If you want to automate some mesh tranformations you can take a look at Greyscalle Gorilla’s Transform plugin for Cinema 4d… AE can’t do alone the drone explosion part (you can render geometry getting transformed with plugins, but you can’t animate them properly).

The logo, which is the AE part, I’m betting are some masked parts of the logo getting duplicated several times and “extruded” in Z. The author did well when adjusting the lights. But you can clearly see that while the drone reflects, the logo doesn’t.

The “magic ” with this effect is the rotation, it really hides the fact that one element scales down and outwards while the other scales up and inwards.

  • I’m a moron, I was thinking about extruded text size, not display fonts and UI. Sorry.

Anyway, my size here is perfectly reasonable in the 4k monitor. I use 125% display scale, to really make use of that screen realstate and I sit about a meter away from the display. I can read things just fine, and I don’t feel tired late in the day.

On the other hand, I can relate if you guys feel the fonts are too small. I guess I’m just used to it and I have a perfect eyesight. I’ll say this so I can just hope if people end up punching things up they don’t over do it.

[Craig Shields] ” And why would systems need avi only in 2018?”

Asking the real questions, I see… haha.

Not only they want a deprecated wrapper, but they want it uncompressed. The slowest way to send a file!

I’ve just today delivered a .dcp package of 200mb which was turned back because they only accepted uncompressed .mov (3GB).

I honestly hope the client sells more with those 0.5% crispier pixels.

  • Thats not cel shading, just flat colors. You could render that in either AE + plugins (Element 3d) or C4d. You’ll require a 3d app to model, and apply materials. So going for C4d alone is your best bet.

Edit: I’ll say not necessarely cel shading, I guess you could use 1 step cell shading, or just luminosity or any other way to get it flat. Its just that a flat color in luminance is faster then a stripped down cel renderer.

  • If you’re selecting the layer within that composition’s viewport, and you want to go to the layer in the composition’s timeline, you can press x.

  • [Joe Blaxland] “I assume if I click this it would take me to the layer in the composition panel”

No, as it says, it will take you to the source in the PROJECT panel, not the composition panel…

[Joe Blaxland] ” I always find the ‘reveal layer source…’ option greyed out.”

What kind of layer is it? lights, cameras, shapes and text layers have no source… on those cases it should be greyed out.
