Running fine for me… though I don’t have any P2 material to test out.

Leave your DSR hooked up to the computer via FW. Send the External monitor to the deck’s A/V out and all will be fine.

Turning on the deck before powering up FCP will — sorry, SHOULD — make it all work, but if not check your View – External Video settings and make sure they say ALL FRAMES and that the video is OUT to FW NTSC (or PAL).

    Good luck,

You won’t have an issue. Bytes is bytes. Info already put to tape will play as info already put to tape in ANY camera. FW just takes the 0 and 1s off the tape.

Just capture normal and you won’t have any issue. It will have the 3.2.3.2 pulldown regardless of the deck you use.

    Good luck,

Actually — I thought I explained it quite well. 24p doesn’t mean 24 frames progressive. On the DVX it means it was 24p with added pulldown to 30 fps.

You are correct with what you said, but 24p and 24pA are two VERY different thing is FCP.

This is a bit misleading answer. I’m sure this is the conflict you are getting. The DVX adds a 2.3.2.3 cadence to the 24p setting. FCP will NOT remove the cadence for you — it is (as said above) meant to give a telecine look to your video. It is NOT meant to give you a 24fps sequence.

Yes, you might end up with odd interlacing upon editing and if it bothers you, you only need to change edit point one frame.

Use the 24pA setting on the DVX for the professional advanced 2.3.3.2 cadence that FCP can rip on the fly and you’ll be editing in a true 24fps DF sequence.

    NOW —

This isn’t very hard… you can send all your 2.3.2.3 video into Cinema Tools and have IT rip the cadence off and you can edit in 24fps DF (23.98) and then use FCP to ADD back the 2.3.2.3 cadence ON THE FLY when you go back to tape — thus keeping the 2.3.2.3 cadence throughout and correct.

HOWEVER – I’d just do what the first poster to your question says and leave it in 29.97 and be done with it. I hope this doesn’t confuse you.

It really depends on what you want your final product to be.

Film — should have shot in 24pA — but you can use Cinema Tools to fix
DVD — could have shot in 24pA and kept it at 24fps on the dvd… but it works both ways
    Web — same as DVD…
TV — only shoot 24p if you want a film(ic) look… shoot with 24p setting and edit in 30fps DF sequence.

    Good luck,

Are you saying you are compressing it for the web? How are you compressing it? What format are you exporting out of AE with? Any way to get a short .mov clip of what you are talking about?

Most of us here don’t have ANY problems with text in our Full RES projects.

  • I’ll answer the .psd question… you’ll need to open the pdf as it’s own sequence and lengthen the layers inside that… THEN go back and lengthen the actual PDF in your timeline.

OR — you can change the import still duration in your FCP preferences. I’ll bet you’ve still got it as default 10 seconds.

There are lots of good music libraries you can use for your wedding videos. Pay for the cd of that stuff and you’ll be able to use at will.

Pay for a cd of someone elses music that is protected by rights and you’ll get in trouble.

Might not the first time, but hey— they’re arresting 13 year old kids for downloading music to their bedrooms. You want to make $2500 and do it for free?

    Please.

    I figured it out…

Had to add a white solid and then mask the solid and Travel Matte Layer1 (now2) to it.

    Thanks anyway.
