    Hey all,

First of all, let me make you aware that I am making the move to the “Dark Side” by leaving the PC platform and converting to FCP from Premiere Pro. A company has hired me to run their video department and THEY want me to make the move to FCP – so that’s kinda cool. 🙂

I am all too familiar with what is offered on PC platform as far as using a PCI card to send out to a broadcast monitor. They are buying me a Dual G5/Dual Core. I am not as familiar with what is offered on the MAC as far as output cards. I don’t need anything extravagant. I am just looking for something that will allow me to preview (in real time) to my Sony broadcast monitor. I would like to have some audio features as I will be using M1 monitors.

Please keep in mind that most of the stuff we are outputting to is for web delivery and some (little) broadcast. Therefore, we are capturing from/to a Sony DSR-25 Deck. Thanks for any and all advice you can provide. I am familiar with Decklink but thought that might be too much. Then again, I may be wrong. I look forward to your responses.

Leave your DSR hooked up to the computer via FW. Send the External monitor to the deck’s A/V out and all will be fine.

Turning on the deck before powering up FCP will — sorry, SHOULD — make it all work, but if not check your View – External Video settings and make sure they say ALL FRAMES and that the video is OUT to FW NTSC (or PAL).

    Good luck,

    CaptM

    Thanks Cap’N

I have printed this response and will be sure to try this once the computer comes in next week. Have a great holiday.
