Any other way? I’d really like to keep the flexibility FireWire gives me. It frees up the few outputs I have on the little board.

I didn’t like the idea of shelling out $125
so i searched around and found this site which has some old but free plugins that will do the job.
make sure to download the AU plugins, and installation is real simple

So I think I’m getting used to 24p, but my question is would 1080p24 be the easy choice compared to 720p24.
Are there any advantages of 720p24?

that’s exactly what i was thinking about.
I see the simpler ND2725 will work with the ex3, but it’s not as awesome. From what I can tell, you can’t backup to another hard drive, can’t preview the video, and can only transfer clips by connecting the camera to the device (…unless you use sdhc cards?). I’m not sure if I would trust a whole trips video onto that one device. Yikes.
But the NVS2500 looks really cool… for a spare $1800. You can backup all the data onto a ext. hard drive. The SxS cards plug right in, as well as sd cards you might use. Preview video on it’s lcd.
Looks great, but not quite worth it (for me) yet. Definitely something to look towards in the future.
    Thanks for the tip

If there are 5 drives, and it supports raid 5, then there is no need for raid 1

Exactly our position. We need to look like a tourist sometimes, and need a camera to use in tight scenarios.
Check out the Panasonic tm700k. It just came out like this month, and has gotten some really great reviews. 1080p, good in low light, small, weighs less than a pound. The version with the hard drive is $400 more, but i dont think it’s worth it. I’d rather not have to hook up the camera to the computer every time anyway.
It is avchd, but I’ll convert it to prores before editing.
I don’t have one yet, but will make the purchase today.

Awesome, thank you very very much for sharing your wisdom on this, it’s worth money.

When I switched between 60i and 30p and saw the loss of light, I had the shutter on 180.

    Eh, content is overrated.

Why would i want or not want a progressive look in a documentary. I don’t really see any advantages in interlaced anymore… technically or aesthetically.
