    well I made a discovery.
it seems FCP automatically limits the db to 0 db on export with no noticeable distortion.

So does this mean if there is something like a clap or shout that goes over the limit, FCP will automatically limit it, and therefore it’s not a big deal?

I’ll look into that some more, but I’ve found it difficult to do with FCP, maybe I’m missing something

I realized an alternate, easy way to do what I want, without having to send to a multitrack and risk messing things up. Also, it will be easy to do again next time I need to change some clips up, which I’ll inevitably have to do later.

…Just export the whole sequence as aiff, import it into STP, then use the better compressor, limiter, eq filters. Job done in less than 10

Because I don’t want to use the compressor/limiter and change the dynamics of the whole sequence. I just want to chop off the shouts or claps… things like that.

I been looking around, and it seems there are a lot of people who are looking to do the same thing. I don’t know why it would be so hard to find a filter to do just that. The only plugins I could find were outdated.

I’ve been using a hackintosh with FCP for about 5 months or so. I’ll admit, it did take some work to get everything working properly, but I didn’t really build mine using the recommended way, because I didnt know the recommended way at the time. There where a few bumps, and it took enough days of me fixing things in the beginning before I questioned if it was really worth it.

But now, I’m happy to say, everything is working 100% for me with no more crashing or problems of any kind. INCLUDING an Aja Kona lhe. (my main concern before I built it) and the esata card from caldigit.

I’ve built two now almost exactly the same. The one I’m on now has an ATi 5850, i7 930 (@3.7ghz), and 20 gb of ram. This can almost rival the new top of the line Macs costing 4x as much.

And I think as long as it’s possible, I will continue to build them. Even in the last few months, the process to build and install has become smoother and smoother, with more and more people going for them.

For me, there is no reason anymore to pay 3x as much for the same equipment with apple logo. Plus, it’s really upgradeable

And Im using it in a full post-production environment.

I can’t recommend it for everyone, but if you’ve got some patience and a little time, there is a pretty big payoff.

Thats just what I’m trying to avoid. The board is only so big, so I’d like to use the FireWire port which then frees up the main outs and alt outs for other things.

And I never seen anything about 24p unfortunately.

That’s what the Mackie is, an 8 input mixer. There has got to be some solution.

Transcend Class 6 works for me. This camera has a lot of nice features. There are few problems I have have with it though. Firstly, I really don’t like the 60p. The motion is a lot different than what you are used to. It kinda makes me sick. You feel like you can pan much faster because there us less blur. But when you watch it on tv it looks very unnatural. I’ve completely abandoned 60p. It will save you in post as well.
The second thing is the shot stabilizer. It’s very herky-jerky and again unnatural. A lot of harsh corrections. When you pan and come to a stop the camera will keep panning a little, then jerk back. And you can’t turn it off.

I would probably go with something a little more proven if I had to do it again. But at least I only use it when I can’t use the big camera!
