Thanks for your response. Think I have a handle on this now.
Much appreciation for all you do.

Amended Insructions for cutting out text.
Create a new image using the 720×534 Std. NTSC DV/DVD preset.
Unlock the created layer by double-click and rename to Layer 0.
Right click on the “T” tool to select the horizontal mask tool.
Click on the black layer and a red mask will cover the layer with the type cursor blinkingType the desired text.
Then click on the magic wand button which will get one out of the horizontal mask mode leaving just the black background with ‘marching ants’ around the text.
Hit the Backspace key – which works like the ‘delete’ key. This will delete the black within the type.
These work!! Thanks for your reply.

Thanks so much for your interest. The AI file was fine. I’ve a sick machine instead. Uninstalled then installed on a diff machine and all is well. Must be time for a rebuild huh’.

My up-to-date AVG saw the threat and a friend’s AVG saw it too. Update your anti-virus and run a scan. For me, it was an .exe deposited on my desktop – I suppose they think we’ll click on it juct coz it’s there. My friend’s was found in hie Temporary Internet Files.

The link to the tutorial above deposited a trojan horse executable on my machine. I wouldn’t go there if I were you. My AVG caught it or I’d have a lot more to say then I have.

Thanks for your response. I have dl’d the tutorial but the finished product has to leave for Africa in 3-4 days so (for expediency) I did ‘experiment’ on my own with fx in Liquid and came pretty close with a combination of Lens Flare, Radial Blur, some back / foreground lighting and some glow effect. It came out ok for just digging in the toolbox.

This really isn’t the appropriate place for your post but I’ll give you some hints.
This happened to me and what you’ll have to do is just be very basic about troubleshooting. 1st, It’s not an AE problem. 2nd, it’s sound card drivers. 3rd, you probably have an on-board soundcard.
Check your mobo book or the top of your soundchip for exact chipset info and numbers.
If Intel, go there instead of using the mobo maker’s driver downloads. (Better drivers and more frequenly updated and patched)
Once you have the RIGHT drivers, nuke the soundcard from Device Manager, run a reg cleaner, then install the new driver via any extra instuctions supplied in the Read Me. Test only with Media Player and beat it up a little by playing a few CD’s or a gob of mp3’s. If it drops out again, you have a more serious problem but this solution worked for me and I haven’t had trouble since.
If it works this way, it’ll work for all your apps.
