All the back slashes in the navigation string were stripped upon posting but you can easily see where you’ll need to navigate to by using My Computer or Explorer. -
Adobe says aerender -help

and tested it but cmd doesn’t know where aerender is and a full path is needed for it to run. Since the full path (C:Program FilesAdobeAdobe After Effects CS4Support Filesaerender.exe – the default location for a Windows installation) contains a long file directory name, you can’t supply a full path string in the command window and instead will have to traverse directories to place yourself in the correct dir first, then type the above.
If you are not an avid user of old DOS commands this can be a little tough so you may need some help. Just holler.

What Dave said and two possibilities.
I’m a Windows guy and don’t know this experientially but FCP should be able to have the ability to separate (demux) audio from video. If so, you should be able to do a mark in – out for the length of the clip you wish to time-remap and export the audio only as wav, mp3, or aif as a separate file. Then export the video clip (with audio turned off) in your favorite flavor and place both of those items in a comp to remap the video as desired. Render or export depending on your needs and either plop that in your main comp or bring it into FCP for any further processing you wish.

That’s good to hear Stephen. It hurts to lose data of any kind and we’ve pretty much all experienced it in little or big amounts. It doesn’t have to be a big deal if you don’t (as mentioned) write to the same disk or do a defrag.
The most important thing is backup-backup-backup. Everyone should but some don’t, or put it off – or forget. Bet you won’t be any of those for awhile.

It is also absolutely IMPERATIVE that you do not write to that disc in any way until your files are recovered. (You run the risk of writing over bits of your files) DO NOT install your file recovery program on the same drive for the same reason.
In my experience there’s only a few really good recovery programs and ‘Recover My Files’ is one of those. It’ll cost you $70 US but well worth it. Make sure you uncheck the box that says you also want the CD – unless you really do. It’s an additional $15. After installing, scan the entire drive for ALL files. If you haven’t written new stuff to the same drive, you can get them back. Just have the program recover the files to a different drive.

Not necessarily.
I checked a few Export options like AVI and Avid MPEG2 and Sound is on by default so depending on the format you want to output as, you will have to uncheck Sound if output settings allow for that. There are lots of cheap or free programs to demux the audio from the video and give you a video-only stream and you really should do that outside of AE before bringing the footage into your proj if you don’t want to have to deal with it. You can eliminate the audio in most video editors by just outputting the video stream without sound.

Your situation really falls under the category of a general computer problem and more than likely not a problem related directly to AE.
The Microsoft fast find index originally came with MS Office 97 to aid in finding Office documents. MS took it to a new level in Windows 2000 and XP to allow one to search for any file but in the end that’s all it does. It runs as a service that starts up when your turn on the computer unless you turn it off in msconfig. You would need to supply more info as to what’s not working. (Presets not opening, Preset Search not searching, etc)
Presets are run by Dynamic Link Libraries so if some aren’t working, then it may be a problem with the presets themselves. Do you get an error message of any kind.

Should Have Added
Basic art and basic steps don’t change much over versions and PA is just looking for vector art. Creating outlines is all that is needed. When you watch the tutorial you will also see ways to get around version problems.

This may be due to not creating outlines around your text or object(s). Go to the ‘Type’ menu and choose ‘Create Outlines’ on the selection.
Zaxwerks created a very informative tutorial on the basics of creating art in AI and prepping it for import. I refer to it over and over when I am unsure of the steps and you can find it at the Zaxwerks web site as the first entry in the Video Tutorials link.
