September 27, 2006 at 8:15 pm in reply to: What is the PC way when dealing with courier and fed ex expenses with clients? Thanks for the story JNeo. That cracked me up.
I have generally been asking for client fedex #’s when it it their project and I have to send elements back to them. Haven’t had any complaints or issues…but, depeneding on the client, I someimes have this slightly uneasy feeling about asking. I’m waiting for the day when I get the ” I just paid you X amount of dollars for this project and you cant even use your own fedex account?”
When clients come over to edit at my facility, I will always pay for lunch deliveries. I view that as a common courtesy….but shipping expenses I view differently.
Again, I have no issue doing so…if I feel the shipment is serving my overall purpose as opposed to a client’s. Just wanting to hear other’s accounts.

September 3, 2006 at 1:01 am in reply to: Which control surface? Mackie control universal or Tascam FW 1082Thanks for that info. The firewire issue seems a problem I might not want to worry about. I guess I’m leaning more towards the Mackie. Besides the fact that I’ll need to keep my analog mixer, is there any other drawbacks to having the Mackie control universal?

September 3, 2006 at 12:42 am in reply to: Which control surface? Mackie control universal or Tascam FW 1082Right now I have a Decklink HD pro card. So you are saying the additional firewire card would disable HD capability? Why would that be? I also have a Mackie 1202 vlz analog mixer for monitoring. I know that I would need to keep that if I used the MCU. Would the Tascam completely eliminate my need for the mixer?
Is there any latency with the Tascam?

August 16, 2006 at 3:25 pm in reply to: Connecting a Beta SP Machine Via a DigiBeta deckYou simply run the component outputs from your beta to the component inputs of your digibeta. Also run the xlr audio out from the beta into the digi. Make sure that on the digi deck you swith the video input switch from SIF to component. I do this all the time with my setup. Works like a charm.

This bug has been around for quite some time. Apple REALLY needs to fix this. I usually just save my gfx files as TIFF’s. Sure would be nice to work with layered PSD’s without this happening on occasion.

While I don’t have an answer for you, I would like to know how happy you are with your videohub. I’m thinking about getting one in the next couple of months. Have you had any problems? My plan is to have at least 2, possibly 4 or 5 workstations, as well as two decks all connected. Does the videohub seem like a logical solution for a setup like this?
thanks,
Bryan

you can get a short term policy for the shoot (coverage for equipment, locations, people) The amount obviously depends on the how much coverage you buy…which depends on the value of the equipment that you need to rent.
here’s a company I have used: https://www.taylorinsurance.com/short_term.html

Hey certainly didn’t sign a contract with apple to edit on Final Cut. He chose the software because he thought that was the best solution for the job (Cold Mountain) He wrote a book about the experience.
