have you tried splicing the large photo into tiles and then arranging them inside Motion and doing each of the moves with the camera inside Motion?

Where in activity monitor is it showing you that FCP is using 8 cores… specifically what values are you getting?

I have 16GB of RAM in my Mac Pro. I run Motion all the time. Motion is greatly GPU dependent so that tends to be where the slowdown occurs.

Motion is not written to utilize more than two cores. Final Cut isn’t either. Basically the only thing in FCS that can use all 8 cores is Compressor (once you create a virtual cluster).

You need to buy a capture card (like an old Kona card). I don’t know which models will work with a g4 tower… most cards require a g5/intel mac now.

You will not be able to capture to the internal drive. It’s not a matter of putting it on a different partition, it’s about separate physical drives. Doing this will drop frames.

Yes, capturing to an eSATA drive through the ExpressCard34 slot in the MBP would work.

The 640 is very good because it uses 2 high-density platters rather than 3-4 low density platters. This reduces heat and increases speed.

I agree that 1TB drives are the way to go (I suggested the 640 since it was closer to what you were asking about). Of the 1TB drives, I really like the Samsung F1 drive since it also uses high-density platters (I believe it’s the only 3-platter 1TB drive) and you can pick it up for $150.

I have a WD 640 as my system drive and multiple Samsung F1 drives for media in my Mac Pro. Both drives are great.

internal is faster and cheaper…. in the 500GB range, I’d actually suggest the WD6400AAKS it is a 640GB Western Digital drive and it’s one of the fastest SATA drives you can get (and it still runs fairly cool). It’s $85 at newegg right now.

Nope, you need to get a mac-specific card from ATi.
