I don’t think youtube even accepts MPEG2… Their video player is based around MPEG4 (which h.264 is).

Raise the bitrate on your h.264 output until you get the quality you are looking for.

It seems like you didn’t catch all of the above statement..

What codec is your sequence in FCP set to? Have you tried changing it to Uncompressed or ProRes?

I’ve read both Walter Murch books above, both are great… reading Norman’s book now.

He has a good blog on Film Industry Bloggers. You should have them read Shane’s blog too.

I would suggest Save The Cat which is a screenwriting book, but is very good for just learning how to tell a story.

  • You should never fill a drive more than 80-85% ever. Clear some space off.

Going from Finder to Media Composer on our Adrenaline systems lags a lot too… I would suspect it is the Unity that is the cause of the slow-down, but there isn’t much to do about it.

they shot with two cameras on set, but the transition between the two cameras was done in post as Shane was talking about (with a lot of cameras).

the clip you linked to was not the complete effect… it isolated the windsurfer, blurred/freeze framed the background and then used a jump cut to the other angle.

you could use a Blackmagic Intensity Pro and use component/composite to go into the monitor.
