try using the tga’s as an image sequence directly – even a lossless format can contain temporal compression (one frame relies on a previous or upcoming frame to render) which throws AE off.

March 31, 2010 at 1:40 am in reply to: Dynamic Link between Premeire Pro & After Effects CS4The man in this video isn’t using dynamic link, he imports the PP project using file>import>file (I don;t know what this would be on a mac, but I know it’s still (something)>import>file). The upside to this method is that you can see what’s in the PP timeline. The downside is if you make a change in AE to the timeline, it won’t be in the PP project beacuse the project file is no longer being used. Basically, AE recreates the PP timeline in a new composition in the AE project.

Could OpenGL have been turned on? My graphics card makes layers disappear if they are too large or the effects are too complex

I don’t know how lux works, but the lights on the left seem to be almost directly at the base of the blue area, while the light on the right is some distance away. Does moving the light closer to the blue area help at all?

RTFM, i believe, can be “Read the F***ing manual”, “Read the Friendly Manual”, etc. In this case, I think it’s “Read Todd’s Friendly (or other – I might be wrong) Manual”. This stems from the fact that he manages AE’s manual.
Todd: Sorry if I’m wrong, I think what I wrote is correct 🙂

I can’t help you with your problem exactly, but try rendering to an image sequence (TIFF, TARGA, PNG, etc.) so that after it fails, you can re-render with the ‘skip existing frames’ option selected. This will skip the frames that rendered successfully, allowing you to continue where you left off. Eventually your project should be completed (if it fails on the first frame when you re-start, then you know something’s up with that particular frame. We’ve got a video that won’t burn completely to disc in Encore, and it always stops on the same frame).

as long as the licenses permit, the safest thing to do would be to uninstall all third party filters, then uninstall the old version of CS, then install the new version, and finally install the third party filters. You have to make sure though that the installer will let you use the same key (if there is one) on the same machine to reinstall – I don’t know about third party filters, but some software is one install only without the company’s approval, even on the same machine.

if you have a solid “floor” layer, try putting a 2D adjustment layer (no effects – just a blank layer) between the text/reflection layer and the floor. This will force the text to render on top of the floor always, including the reflection. As far as your exact problem, I don’t know if this will help or apply to you at all, but it’s saved me a lot of trouble with layers intersecting in 3D space.
just a side thought, are you using opengl? try turning it on/off, or render a test video to check completely. AFAIK, opengl and After Effects don’t play nicely together (I blame the fact that AE is more complex and powerful than its competitors, so it’s harder for the AE programmers to implement comprehensive features like a different rendering engine, or so I imagine.)

I think your first step should be to stabilize the motion, if possible. You say the band moves around a lot, does the camera move (other than shaking), or is it pretty much shot from the same direction and position? (relative to the green screen). If the camera moves, Boujou or another 3D tracker may be your only option (I don’t know what is or isn’t possible in 3D trackers). If the camera stay still, you should be able to use the 2D tracker in AE to stabilize the motion. Either way, You’d need some stationary equipment in the frame to track. If there is none, then ignore everything I said be cause it is irrelevant. Good luck.
