  • That’s VERY unfortunate. If the software makes a copy, it can get very messy with multiple copies – Final Cut should at least add a number to the end of a new nest that it creates so the user knows it’s not the original.

That just doesn’t seem very “Apple-intuitive”.

May 5, 2011 at 5:45 pm in reply to: Depth map from 3D objects in comp? How?

Depth of field is great for blur and that works fine but I really need to sell the effect of distance by having the further objects take on more of the background color to simulate fog or murky liquid. Kevin’s script was awesome and I will use that for the camera and objects distanced from it…the depth map was mainly to apply the color effect toward the furthest objects. I can’t use opacity for this because at times, there are objects that go behind them and the would show through.

    Thanks guys!

In answer to my own question, I did happen to find this….

    https://www.digieffects.com/product/atmosphere

But can I isolate alpha’s 3d layers and NOT affect a background image?

    Hmmmmm.

    Brian,

Thanks for the response. For now, I’ve chosen to use only two motion clips, which did save me for this project but I wish I could add more. The file is 85 MB + textures = over 100mb so I’ll just whine and complain for a smaller project when motion clips become my saving grace another time.

    Cheers!

It should be noted that this post still has not been addressed by anyone, which is not uncommon for more technical questions but get this… over the course of 1 year, I have written two inquiries about motion clips in Cinema 4D on this forum. I also wrote to Maxon twice with two different sample files containing motion clips and questions about how to solve the issue with them. I even wrote to Kai Pederson over at Cineversity and asked him about it as he provided a general tutorial about them which at least got me started.

No one, I repeat, NO ONE will respond to questions about Motion Clips. It’s like some taboo topic…a devil child that was abandoned within the application by all the programmers and heavy users. It’s really frustrating when even the company who makes the application won’t talk about something implemented into their own software.

There’s no excuse for ignoring a user’s inquiry like this and I really have taken on a begrudging attitude towards Maxon for it. That’s just not cool.

I do owe props to Adam T. here – you’ve always been there to answer questions and even if you were unsure, try to direct me to the right source. Thanks for that!

You may have to go into points mode, select all the points on that mesh that’s causing you the problem, go to FUNCTIONS, then OPTIMIZE. Make sure the tolerance is set to .01, then hit OK.

I bring in a lot of models from downloadable sources and many of them, the polys are exploded and you need to bring them back together again – this is what OPTIMIZE will do in this case.

Next, you can drop that part of the bulb into a Hypernurbs object and that will take care of a wonderfully smooth surface for you.

    Hope this helps,

    Sweet, worked great–don’t know why I didn’t think of that! ; )

I must have to do something with the “Vector Up” field because the eyes rotate around on their X axis.

    Your advice?

    Peace,
    B

  • Thanks for the answer and advice, Adam. I may have to connect them to see how that goes.

Chalk this request up for future versions!

    Cheers!
