    Hi Darren,

I would usually bill out around $1,400 to build a complete character like that, fully textured.

I’m not familiar with the circle of modelers on this forum so they may differ quite a bit in their method of charging.

    Hope that helps.

    Hi Adam! Thanks.

If the bevel comes from the cap, how would you use your spline to create the bevel?

If my spline spans along the x axis and the cap would be on the z…how would I do this?

    Thanks,
    Brian

OK, I found the problem but one still remains.

For the bevel issue, I had the fist point of the spline on the very inside, where the lathe rotates on it’s center point. I set the first point to one of the points on the outside of the spline and that fixed the reverse bevel.

Only problem now is that at the very middle of the lathe, the bevel stops and starts again at the center point. You may have to try this for yourself to see what I mean but basically, the bevel does not continue through the center point of the lathe, the bevel lathes too. Bummer. Really didn’t want to have to convert to a mesh.

  • Thanks for that Darby.

So it sounds like if I would have cached both particles, then dynamics on the beginning, I would have the same run of particles and collisions no matter how may times I render it and from any frame?

The key is to do this before I even render the first time though, correct?

    Thank you again,
    Brian

Hmmm, interesting approach – thank you all for your answers! I’ll experiment with your ideas.

  • Thanks Adam, I figured this out – just had to invest a little time into it.

  • Thank you Adam (as always!)

The trick here is the camera will get close to this surface and the little blobs must be randomly separate from one another. Some may touch, others can be isolated. I’m having some luck with a cloner object which places a designated object all over the surface of a sphere but I want to vary to size and rotation of some of the cloned instances. I’ve tried the Random effector but it doesn’t seem to have an effect. Any advice?

    Thank you!

In researching my own question, I’ve come across the Nvidia Quadro FX 4800 for Mac. Looks like a real powerhouse. Anyone have any experience with this paired with R13? If I spend that much money, I want to see a dramatic difference.

    Thanks again.
