Depends on what flavor of video you want to edit, DV or HD/HDV? like Vince mentioned if you got the intergrated graphics version it could give you some problems with 3gigs of memory, CS4 can be a memory hog, as you didn’t comment which graphics adapter you have, the intel intergrated or quadro standalone??
If you want to spend a few bucks, you could add a 4gig memory chip or 2 to get a total of 6 or 8 gigs, upgrade to a win7 64bit version, get a external eSATA II drive(a good idea no matter which kind of video you want to edit) -
I have AFX as part of Production Studio, but I didn’t mention it as the early part of this thread mentioned being able to do it on the cheap, which the virtualdub(free) method is

Are you saying you have a video file with 44.1 audio on it? from what camcorder? or what was the original source?

December 9, 2009 at 1:44 pm in reply to: Need help with intensity pro. Maybe a hardware conflictI’m using a EP45C-DS3 with no problems, I use a IDE DVD drive also, quad core processor, 8gigs of ram, nvidia 9600gt video, 750w PS, I run a GV HDSpark hdmi out card plus the intensity pro, with win7 pro64, in the past I’ve run the intensity with XP pro by itself

There aren’t very many NLEs or encoders that do a top job in downconverting, I think its along the lines that not very many manufs in the past expected for DVDs to still be around so didn’t plan accordly and foot dragged, some will do a reasonable job but still get artifacts with motions and off axis lines, virtualdub does a good job minimizing these

When you say avi are you refering to DVavi? are these files going to for a DVD or projection, or computer use?

[John Brookhouse] ” use PPro CS4, but it doesn’t do live capture (that I’m aware of).”
Sure does capture live, if your cam can be viewed on a HDTV live via HDMI, you can capture live into premiere pro via intensity hdmi, I don’t know the capabilities of your system, but if you can capture HDV via firewire you should be able to capture mjpeg or whatever else is listed under sequence presets for BM, once you have the project setup and have the normal workspace screen hit F5 for the capture screen and if your cam is on you should see what the cam is seeing in the capture window also if you have a HDTV or HDMI scaling monitor connected to the intensity hdmi output you should see the same on their screen, TIPs: be sure the volume is muted on the monitor and computer speakers as your cam’s mic is live and you will get feedback, you can monitor the sound via a headset, also if you are on battery most cams will timeout and shutdown usually after 6-7min, you will need to run tape or have the tape door open(collects dust) or power the cam with the AC adapter, unless you have a fast raid and large storage uncompressed is not a good idea, mjpeg will give you full 1920×1080 sq pixels, I’ve used Sony and Canon, Pro, Prosumer, and consumer hdmi cams to do this, can’t say anything about other brands. -
[Mike Cohen] “how is the Matrox I-frame mpeg-2 codec to work with, vs native HDV?”
Haven’t tried it yet, just finishing some projects up, I’m going to try it with NeoScene, I-frame, and mjpeg, I’m going to be moving stuff between machines, and want to find file types which will work with all the software and different hardwares.[Mike Cohen] “what are you using for storage?”
Mostly external eSATA raids so I can move drives between machines[Mike Cohen] “have you used the uncompressed HD option?”
Not yet and probably not, 10 bit 4:2:2 Should do just about anything I want. -
There are a few ways, downconvert to DV in your camcorder if you have the capability, edit in DV, encode to dvd.
another way is to use Virtualdub with the Lanczos3 filter, you can do a net search for “virtualdub downconvert” for more info
