Use a 1080i preset, progressive works better in a interlaced project than interlaced in a progressive project.

I’ve never had a problem using an inverter to power a cam through its external power supply, the external supplies are usually pretty well regualated as they have a wide ac voltage range on their input. -

One thing you can try with strange problems is to shut down the computer, disconnect all power, clean the edge connects on perif cards, memory sticks, reseat all power connectors and drive cables

I don’t think there are any firmware updates for the “Vixia” HV30, there is a firmware update for the HV30 here is the page that has the info:

If you are talking about using a inverter to power the Canon AC/DC adapter that plugs into the camcorder to charge the battery, I’ve done that with a HV20.

For a win computer where you will do some multitasking 6-8gigs minimum, usually DDR3 is 3 sticks in a set, alot of Mobos have six ram slots so using 2gig sticks you could get 12gigs onboard or 24gigs if you afford the larger sticks. If you are going to use a suite like production premium CS5 12gigs if you can afford it, likewise with a processor, i7 930 or up.

Power supply has a 25% margin if it hasn’t degraded, this “render and the stutter would show back up but in a different place on the timeline” would appear that something is changing somewhere, if its not due to data dropouts from disk frag, memory problems, or power problems , it could be from data transfers from the disks due to marginal sectors, have you ran low level disk diagnostics?
