  • Mixing 1080p with 1080i

So I own a Canon 7D and a friend of mine owns a XH A1. I shoot 1080p and his camera shoots 1080i. We want to use both cameras on a project, but wonder what the best way to mix the progressive and interlaced footage would be. I have the cs4 suite on my pc that will be used for the edit. Any suggestions?

Use a 1080i preset, progressive works better in a interlaced project than interlaced in a progressive project.

Thanks i’ll try that. So are there any ill side effects at all when putting a 1080p clip on a 1080i timeline? Or is it pretty flawless?

The other way around can cause more problems with interlaced in a progressive project.

Any thing to keep in mind when encoding my final video? Are there any settings I should be mindful of?

Hoping to bump this thread for an answer to the last question. I’m getting ready to do a multi-camera (multi-operator) shoot, and would like to know how best to tackle (in the edit) the fact that some of us will be shooting 1080p and others 1080i.

    Thanks!
