    AFAIK that is only one card out of the group that does RealTime editing acceleration and thats the Quadro CX

    There is a hack that can be used to use CUDA on mobile cards, same hack that is used for non-qualified, the thing is to have enough CUDA cores to make a difference, another drawback is having enough descreet video memory, newer laptops sometimes use shared memory to augment video memory and that steals memory from apps, also cooling for video chips in a laptop maynot be as great as it should be.
    Here is a couple of articles on video card hacks for CS5, The first one lists a 285M as being used on a laptop, others have been used with various degrees of success.

  • I don’t know what you are up to but video is identified by its vertical resolution, DV is ntsc 480i, pal 576i or xxxp, HD is 1080, i or p or 720p, if you are editing to make a ntsc DVD the final matrix will be 720×480(480x) so everything you add to that matrix should be eventually to scaled 720×480 unless its a PIP or split screens or montages, if you not going to make a DVD but maybe for the net or computer you will have to scale the output to resolution you are going to use.

    g-spot is a small program that can be downloaded from the internet for free that will take most video and identify its parameters.

    When you say Nvidia 280 are you refering to a NVS280 or a GTX280?
    I’ve got more than 2 HDV layers out of a q9450 with 8gigs ram, with Ppro CS4 win7 64bit

    A Pentium 4 is pushing the envelope for HDV, if you are importing HDV via Premiere capture you shouldn’t see anything in the capture window when capturing.

    Have you tried it without the lock, and disconnect and select DV from the menu (Playback STD = DV)

    The video probably doesn’t match the project settings. What kind of video are you using, get something like “g-spot” and check the video and see what the parameters are, and what are your project settings?
