I am using CS4 with Canon HDV40. The capture window stutters when the camera is playing, especially during pans and also as the tape starts up. When I connect a monitor to the camcorder, that image is always smooth. Captured footage is smooth. The capture window, which I am using to log scenes is frequently not smooth. I never had this problems with PP2. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

You’ll have to help, my xtal ball is sputtering this morning and wouldn’t lock in on the gazillion combinations of computer types, specs, operations systems, peripherals that you are possibly running CS4 on

    Here is my configuration:
    Pentium 4 3.2 GHz, 3 GB Ram
Window XP Pro Service Pack 3
Two EIDE 250 GB Hard Drives
One Serial 320 GB Drive for Video Editing
    ATI Radeon 9600 video Card
    Samsung Syncmaster 797 DF Monitor
    OHCI compliant Firewire Card
USB Yamaha MW 12 Mixer/ Sound

This system has worked well for Premiere Pro 2.0 with Standard Definition. Now, with HDV, I experience stuttering only in the capture window. All captured clips are perfect. When I connect an old Commodore monitor to my video camera (Canon HDV40) there is no stutter in that monitor, but there is a delay. Should I be looking for a better video card, perhaps?

A Pentium 4 is pushing the envelope for HDV, if you are importing HDV via Premiere capture you shouldn’t see anything in the capture window when capturing.

One of us is confused. It certainly could be me. If I should not see anything in the capture window, how would I know which scenes to capture?
