looks like a semi standard glass/water texture on the figure with a luminescent rectangle (probably) above and below. All contained in a sphere or sky object with a fresnel gradient on it.
Lighting might have GI but might be a dome of lights with specular turned off as well

You’d have to be in poly mode and have one of the poly bits chosen. If you want to have all the parts (caps and body) as one object you will have to select them all and do a Functions/Connect. That will give you a new object with all the parts included (you can keep the old one and hide it or delete it). The parts in the new object are just all in the same poly object now, if you want them to all be attached to each other do an ‘Optimize’

Normal splines? What do you mean? Are they parametric splines (like the circle or arc) and you want to make them editable? If so, right-click on the slpine and choose Make Editable or select the spline and press the “c” key.

It can be done in the settings for the Hair material. Animate the Transparency channel, the trick is to bring Reflectiveness and Translucence in the Illumination tab to 0 as well or it won’t actually disappear.

Sounds like you have Compositing Project File checked but you either don’t have Save Image checked or you haven’t given a name for the image to be saved, so all you are getting is the compositing file but no image.

Check off Alpha Channel in Render Settings/Save and make sure you are saving to a format that will hold an alpha channel. Photoshop or Tiff for stills, Quicktime Movie using Animation codec set to Millions of Colors+ for a movie file would be good choices.

Use Set Driver/Set Driven for the parameter you want to control (using right-click and choosing from the Animation menu). Good for small numbers of lights. Otherwise XPresso… and probably more I’m not thinking of.
