Okay, Im very very very new to C4D. I have made some 3D text in C4D and need to get that image to After Effects with no background just the 3D text and it still be 3D. Can you do that?
Thanks for putting up with such a green chap as me.

Check off Alpha Channel in Render Settings/Save and make sure you are saving to a format that will hold an alpha channel. Photoshop or Tiff for stills, Quicktime Movie using Animation codec set to Millions of Colors+ for a movie file would be good choices.

Okay, when I go under render settings I pick Tiff and I picked PSD , turned off alpha and it saves it no matter what with the extension aec. After efx wont even recognize it even when I manually change the extension to tiff or psd it saves it as a aec. frustrated.

Sounds like you have Compositing Project File checked but you either don’t have Save Image checked or you haven’t given a name for the image to be saved, so all you are getting is the compositing file but no image.

You’re confusing two different things: the straight output from Cinema (what Brian was describing) and Cinema’s compositing output, which requires a plugin.

Compositing output would be overkill if you just want to produce a movie file with an alpha channel. But if you want to use the compositing output (i.e., the .aec file) you have to install the AE plugin that comes with Cinema. You’ll find it in your Maxon\Exchange Plugins folder.

K, now that i installed the plug in from the Plugins Exchange folder and I set my render settings, AE allows me to import the aec. file but in my comp. its 1 frame of color bars and then black. Im going to keep fooling around with this but more of your input is much much appreciated. Ive got to be close.

You have to render/save the actual frames in Cinema in order for them to be available in AE, i.e., if you just press the “save” compositing file, there won’t be any footage for AE to import.

Is there no way to bring in my 3D text to AE and it still have the 3D attributes to it in AE from C4D?? I now can get a flattened image of it but its not 3D, no depth.
