Good gosh man plug your dang camera into a TV already and find out on your own! Take the video and and stick it in the video in. And D8 is the same rez as DV. They probably do look similar. Shooting on full auto in your classroom is gonna look like dog squeeze. Get some lights and a tripod and a tv and run a test.

Flash excels as a vector animation tool. Vectors are scalable images that look the same no matter what the size. Your animations would probably look best as an h.264 quicktime movie, but most folks don’t have the latest QT it takes to play those. Sorensen is probably your next best option or mpeg1. I use cleaner, but Sorensen squeeze would be the way to go as well.
You should be able to create quicktimes that look better at around half the size. You can get decent sizes out of AE, but it’s not really meant to be a compression tool. One way to cut the size in half is simply to cut the frame rate in half. From 30fps to 15fps for example.

Er, there’s no such thing as an uncompressed DV Quicktime movie. DV is, by it’s very definition, compressed 5:1. The DV codec is always compressed 5:1. If you want uncompressed, it would be called uncompressed. And, would of course take up 5 times the drive space, AND look exactly like your DV movie since you’re apparently working in DV.
If you’re encoding the DVD on your system, simply output a Final Cut Pro Movie and don’t check self contained or recompress. It’ll take about a gig and a half for the audio.
Otherwise DV takes 5 minutes per gig so you’re looking at around 24gigs. You could also just use compressor to export it to mpeg2 for DVD. If you’re using iDVD, I don’t think you can get 2 hours on a DVD, but I may be wrong.

Since you shot 30p, you’re going to have to remove frames to get to 24p. If I remember correctly, the Canon still shoots at 1/60 a second shutter in Frame mode. So you have 30 very crisp images. When you shoot 24 fps, you want a slower shutter speed to get the motion blur. Shooting at normal 30i would give you 60 images per second at the same shutter speed, so would actually give the plugins more info to blend together to create the motion blur.

I think he’s pointing out that with removable drives, even that method becomes problematic. You digitize and render to a drive for one project, begin another, and then remove the drive, taking both projects with it.
Since version 1 people have been asking for this. And apparently, it is not a simple fix. Sure seems like it would be.

My dual G4 that seems to have trouble lately with everything ( I think the machine is defective) loaded the page almost instantly. A few seconds. No crashing. My Comcast broadband has been pretty cruddy lately too.
However, you’ve made some errors that newbies that use Fireworks or Imageready tend to do. Those apps, while they can export an html page, should not be used to create html pages. Sounds weird I know. But they should be used to create elements on a page. A menu bar, a gif animation, etc. What you’ve create is a page that is entireley graphics. The menu items on the left for example, are bordered squares with text in them. There is no need to create gifs or jpegs for this effect. A web browser can do that with simple html and css. There would effectively be no download time. They would also be sharp focus. Your menu items are blurry, probably because you’ve compressed them highly. As well, you have a background that is a solid color. The menu bar is also a solid color. Both are done with images / slices when they should be done with tables or layers and background colors.
I’d agree with Curtis on the animations, but you did mention they’d show after thumbnails in the future. The animations you put up there are not flash animations. They’re in flash format, but there’s not one pixel of vector animation. After Effects CAN output vector-style flash, but you have to follow some extreme rules. No precomposing for example. No 3D either I think. Otherwise, it just rasters the frame and you’ve essentially got a quicktime animation in a flash shell. Might as well be a quicktime with playback controls. And even if you do follow the AE rules about flash export, it still creates horribly huge files compared to actual flash files created with the Flash app. A 10k file created by flash, would be a 200kl file created by AE most likely.
If you really are a newbie then that’s a lot to absorb. Get the site up there and start version 2 with all that in mind.

You really had no idea how deep a question you asked, did you? Some fell into production, and for others it was a focused goal. We all got here a different way. One could argue that if you really know what to, college it poetntially a big waste of time and money. In fact, if you could wisely invest the money, you could double it in 5 years instead of being in debt. But college was such great fun (UGA) that I could never really recommend not going. If I’ve learned one thing, it was that I really know nothing. Especially 18 years ago before I began college.
As a little kid, I used to love computer programming on an Atari an PC. But by highschool, I wanted to play guitar for a living. But I knew I had to go to college. I wasn’t much on reading music or studying it, so I figured I’d major in radio/tv/film at UGA and be a DJ or something. In the first production course I discovered that I loved editing and shooting. I then took some photography classes and loved those. After college my goal was the same, to work my way up through the editing and production ranks and start my own produciton house. But by the time I bought my first house, I realized I had a love for home renovation. Now my goal is to try and fix up homes on the side until I can retire as early as possible and enjoy life with my wife and any hopefully a family.
The biggest thing I’ve learned is that I like to create stuff. I think my brain wants to leave behind tangible things. It doesn’t really matter what. A computer program, a crappy song, a corporate video, a renovated house, and someday children. I really had know idea that’s what my brain was telling me when I wanted to play rock n roll. But I was open to all the changes that came my way.
If you’re already adept at business, maybe you need to learn about the art. If the art comes naturally, maybe you should send yourself to business school. You may find that your desire to open a produciton house is your brain actually telling you to open a “business.” And in business school you may learn that other ventures of business are more fullfilling.
Hmmm, all that said, I think I’d go to a general college. In state. Save the money. Invest the money.
Here’s something I wish someone had told me when I was 18… 10,000 invested now will double roughly every 10 years. If you do the math, you’ll see that you can retire a millionaire. And that’s only 1 investment of 10,000! Every 7 years you wait to get started, costs you half on the retirement end. Basically, invest 10,000 now and retire a millionaire. Start in 7 years and you only get $500,000. Start in 14 years (like many of us) and you’ll retire with $250,000. I’m still hoping someone started me an account and still hasn’t told me about it! People wonder how old folks got so rich. That’s how. You sure don’t get rich on salary alone.

The simplest way is to do it in the viewer. If you don’t want it to effect the clip in the bin, you can bring up the source file, buut it won’t have any mark in’s or outs. Just place the playhead and press cmd+opt+f. THEN set the speed, and the in/out points and edit it in like normal.
